REVIEW: MyChelle Perfect C PRO Serum 25%

When it comes to ingredients in skin care, one of the most researched and effective in reducing signs of aging is definitely L-ascorbic acid, a form of Vitamin C, and it has definitely become a staple in my skin care routine over the past year. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and is great for evening out skin tone and texture. I don't know about you, but that's something that I very much need! For Spring 2017, MyChelle Dermaceuticals has a new serum in their stable - the Perfect C PRO Serum 25%*, and I've been testing it out for the past few weeks.

About:
A professional-level, concentrated Vitamin C formula to effectively brighten the complexion and provide powerful antioxidant/antipollution/anti-aging benefits. Formulated with the highest, active level of stable 25% L-Ascorbic Acid to improve skin texture and reduce the visible signs of aging. Plant C-Stem™ and Ubiquinone (CoQ10) help protect stressed skin for a more luminous complexion. Recommended to help renew and revitalize mature or damaged skin, or for those who are already using a Vitamin C regimen.

I've been using this consistently as my daytime serum. I like to use this after toner and before a more hydrating hyaluronic acid serum, followed by day cream and sunscreen. The reason that I personally like Vitamin C as my day serum is twofold. First, I tend to use other actives at night and I don't want to overwhelm my skin, so it's best to keep this particular active for daytime. Second, there is evidence that supports the idea that Vitamin C can help protect from sun damage. That said, don't use Vitamin C in place of your SPF, because you still need it without a single doubt.

One thing that struck me when I first pumped this out was the colour. Because often a darker colour of a Vitamin C product means that it has oxidized and will have lost potentcy, I decided to contact the company about it and I wanted to share their answer with you guys verbatim.

"MyChelle Perfect C™ formulations use a patented form of stable L-Ascorbic Acid. The formulas contain a high percentage of natural solvents including water, antioxidants, and gum-based rheology modifiers to protect its L-Ascorbic Acid content. High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) analysis of Perfect C™ has shown a 99.5% retention of L-Ascorbic Acid over a 12-month period at room temperature. This highly stable formulation allows for reliable efficacy and exceptional results, over the duration of its shelf life even as the product darkens."

So like I said, I've been using this consistently and I'm really impressed with it. As I get older, I'm definitely finding that brightening products are a must in my routine and Vitamin C definitely stands out as an ingredient that really works for me, and this product has been a great example of that. I've noticed that with consistent use as a part of my daily routine, my skin looks brighter and overall more even in both tone and texture.

One thing that I will say is that when I use this, I definitely get a pretty strong tingle that I've found in most of the stronger Vitamin C serums I've tried. I don't find it to be a problem, personally, but I would keep it in mind if you have sensitive skin or aren't used to using Vitamin C products - because it is intense.

Overall, I think this is a great serum for people whose skin is already somewhat used to Vitamin C, as this is a really potent serum and it might be a little too intense if your skin is sensitive or unprepared. For someone just getting into the Vitamin C game, MyChelle's original Perfect C Serum with 17% l-ascorbic acid might be a better bet, but for people whose skin is used to stronger actives I think this is a phenomenal option and definitely the one that I'll personally keep reaching for! It's a little spendy at $56CAD for 15ml of product, but I personally do think that this is worth the price tag if you can afford it.
