UNBOXING: Memebox Special #37 Wake Up Makeup

by - September 26, 2014

It feels like it's been way too long since I got a Memebox... and I fear that after next week it'll probably actually be way too long before I get another one. I've been trying to restrain myself and keep from buying all the Memeboxes... because it's hard on the wallet and I already have a drawer full of Memebox items that are TBU (To Be Used...) and I have a feeling those are going to take a while to work through already. That being said... Man, you guys, I really love Memebox. I get so excited when these damn pink boxes arrive and it makes me wanna order more. Like a fiend. When I get one, I just want more. And that, my friends, is why Memebox has blown up so much. Everyone I've seen try one just can't seem to stop themselves.

So, I actually had this value set in my cart for a while (look for the second box in the set next week!) and I hemmed and hawwed before I finally pulled the trigger. See, the thing is, I love the makeup centric boxes. They're a little more rare than I might like them to be, but I really like getting them and I feel like they sell out fairly quickly. Also, I feel like the theme of Wake Up Makeup is a really good theme for a box... particularly for a grown up woman who works a 9 to 5 type of situation like myself. So. I ordered it. Long story long.

Keep reading for a look at the contents....

I swear, I look at this picture and I'm just happy. Is that a super dorky thing? Probably. But it's cute, the way I like my Korean products, with maybe just a little too much pink. And a bonus item... which does not come with instructions or a value. BUT we'll get to that soon. Let's look at what I got a little more closely.

From the Memebox website:
Flawless skin, brighter eyes, plus 10 more minutes of sleep? No, you’re not dreaming. It’s just your morning beauty routine, updated.
If mornings are not your best friends, and spending hours in front of the mirror is not an option, we’ve got ways to streamline your morning beauty routine so that you can look good, and feel good, every morning. Here, a simple makeup box with a selection of all products that will put yourself together in a flash, at home, or on the go.

Because no matter how you feel, Meme-fans always get up, make up, show up, and never give up!
1. Bbia Downy Cheek Cream Blush in 01 Downy Pink - Full Size Product - Value $12
"This ultra blendable cream blush gives your cheek a natural flush of color! The creamy formula blends into the skin with no visible texture for the look of natural beauty and goes on completely weightless. It can be worn under or over powder to sculpt and highlight your cheeks!
HOW TO USE:
Blend in color onto cheeks with brush for the look of naturally glowing cheeks."

Cream blush. I can definitely understand how this fits into the box. I swatched it and it has a very thin texture that I'm not sure how I feel about. On the one hand, I really feel like this will give a natural, subtle flush to the cheeks... but on the other I feel like it has the distinct potential to make me look really, really shiny. And really, really shiny isn't good. That being said, I'm looking forward to trying this. I actually really like cream blushes for winter because I feel like it takes my dull winter skin and gives it a little bit more life and a healthy look, so this could be a big win.

2. It's Skin Babyface Young Girl Gel Eyeliner Duo - Full Size Product - Value $13
"This dual colored gel eyeliner comes in two color options - black and brown or black and purple - and when the two shades are applied together, they create a younger-looking, lovelier effect on your eyes. Plus, the cream-type texture allows it to glide onto skin smoothly in one easy application.
HOW TO USE:
Wear alone for an ultra-reflective, high shine finish without stickiness or apply over or under your favorite lip products. (I assume this is a mistake and they meant eye products, because this would look insane on the lips.)"

From what I've seen online, most people were hoping that they got this combination rather than the one with brown, but weirdly enough I was the opposite. I actually have a cream liner from Tarte in a very similar shade or purple and I just really never use it. That said, I think this is an adorable concept. I love the packaging of the It's Skin Babyface products, which come with an outer plastic wrapper with little adorable wings on it. I love that it came with a brush, though I'm pretty sure that this particular brush is better suited to applying lip color than eyeliner. I swatched these and found that the purple is a little too dry for me (which I suspect has to do with the purple pigments, since purple pigments are a jerk), but the black is absolutely gorgeous with great pigmentation and a smooth, opaque application. We'll see how this goes!

3. Royal Nature The Original Soothing Blemish Balm - Full Size Product - Value $43
"Royal Nature's The Original Soothing Blemding Balm is greatly acknowledged for its gentle, soothing formula enriched with calendula extracts, chamomile extracts, cypress essential oil, portulaca extracts, and Royal Nature's special 'Angel's Tear' complex. Unlike other chemical infused BB Creams, this Blemish Balm with relieve and brighten up the skin."

This is the first time I've gotten a BB cream from a Memebox, which I feel is kind of a travesty. Considering that Korean BB creams are what kind of started the trend of Korean beauty buying internationally, I feel like it would be great if they highlighted that more. So obviously I'm really excited about this. I'm also excited at the description. I love all of the natural ingredients, and I can attest that it has a kind of natural, herbal scent to it, and I love something that will brighten up my skin. I am, however, a little confused by "Angel's Tear Complex"... I can't for the life of me figure out what that could possibly mean. But! Looking forward to trying this on my face.

4. Shara Shara Creamy Dual Auto Eye Stick in Holly Pink Brown - Full Size Product - Value $9
"This Creamy Dual Auto Eye Stick simplies your eye makeup collection by combining an eyeliner and an eyeshadow into one double ended stick. The two shades for every color option are carefully curated so they can be applies together harmoniously or be mixed and matched with other liners and shadow colors. The creamy texture is gentle on the skin and the subtle pearly glitters add more glam and style to your eyes.
HOW TO USE:
Apply the shadow end of the eye stick over your eyelids first. Then, apply the liner along your lash line to complete your eye makeup."

So. I ended up with the pink.... Not my first choice, particularly when there was one called Celeb Burgundy, which I feel would have made me jump up and down with joy. Still, this is pretty and sometimes a pale, shimmery pink cream shadow makes a really good base for other shadows. Also, I do like the creamy, shimmerless, midtoned brown eyeliner that comes with it. Weirdly enough, though it could seem really ordinary, I don't have a shade like this in my collection.

 5. Cheek Room Two Color Lip Gloss in 07 Lavendar & Pink Beige - Full Size Product - Value $12
"There's no need to make more room in your pouch with this product! The dual lip gloss provides a liquid lip color with the intense, long lasting hold of a lip stain and the eye-catching shine of a gloss. It is formulated so that the stain locks color on the lips for a waterproof, smudge proof result that will not transfer or fade. Its intensely pigmented formula provides immediate, opaque color with a matte texture and its non-sticky topcoat adds an extreme lacquered finish.
HOW TO USE:
Use tip to apply tip to lips and spread it well. Wait 30 seconds after first application and apply gloss on top for a super glossy effect."

First of all... I looked at this box and was like, "Wow, that really looks like Scarlett Johansson!" And then I realized that it actually is Scarlett Johansson. This illustration is taken directly from a photograph of Scarlett for Dolce & Gabbana. I wonder how D&G would feel about that. Second, when I took this lipgloss out of the package, I made a serious face - particularly when I saw that it's supposed to be really highly pigmented. The description of this product definitely lies. This is not a super opaque liquid lipstick. This is a lipgloss, period. Which. Is. Great. I applied this to my lips and I loved the look. It's super subtle and seems like one of those products that's just meant to give a little bit of life to your natural lip color. I'm sincerely glad that it does what it does rather than what it claims to do. Because. Super opaque baby pink lips with a lavender gloss? No. Just no.

6. Shara Shara Glitter Pearl Powder in Bronze Gold - Full Size Product - Value $7
"Shara Shara's Glitter Pearl Powder boosts its glitter pearls that shine and sparkle in multi-angles and apply super smoothly onto skin, with a silky long-lasting radiance. Also, the tip brush controls the amount of Pearl Powder for a single application, making sure just the right amount is applied and adhered to the skin. Plus, it can be used as a highlighter as well.
HOW TO USE:
Apply the Pearl Powder along your lash line or over your eyelids. Re-apply 2-4 times if you want stronger glitters and color formation. It can also be applied along the under-eye line."

First off... The Packaging of this product is super cute. It looks like nail polish, but on the end of the wand is a little pointed sponge tip that you use to apply the product. The thing that I don't like is that the packaging makes it pretty much difficult to use anything else to apply this product and I suspect that when it starts to get low, it'll be even harder. There's a little rubber stopper in the top that can be removed, but I suspect that will make it really messy. That said, I'm really glad I got this colour because I love those kind of coppery eye looks for fall and winter and I think this will make a good topper to a couple of other shadows that I own to give them that really punchy night out shimmer. It's pretty, it really is.

BONUS ITEM:

Cellbydate The Real Galacto Zero Essence - Full Size Item - Value $14
This uses galactomyces ferment filtrate which is great for sensitive or acne prone skin.  It is very gentle.  It also helps with redness and moisturizing.  It also contains skin-active elements- vitamins, minerals and amino acids.

This product wasn't listed on the card, so I had to take to the internet to find what I could on it... which was very little. That being said, the description I did find makes it seem like I'm really going to like this product. I don't have a ton of experience with various different essences, but I've tried a few and the one I saw the best results was one similar to this one with a watery format rather than a gel type texture. I'm really looking forward to trying this one to see what I think.

Total Cost: $23
Total Box Value: $110

OVERALL...

I have to say I'm pretty happy with this box. Like I said earlier, I tend to really like the makeup centric boxes and I think this one does a really good job. I'm really happy to get a BB cream from Memebox for the first time and overall I think the products that were included are quite nice. I did have a wishlist for this box in my head and it didn't quite hit that, but I feel like it still did a very good job.
