Prairie Beauty

One thing that I saw a lot of when I was scrolling around looking for fall nail art inspiration (this month between Halloween and Christmas can definitely be a little bit tricky) I saw a lot of skittle mani's featuring gradients of warm browns and I felt pretty inspired by the idea. Browns aren't polishes that I tend to reach for often, but I knew that I had some good ones in my collection so I just had to find the right ones. I then decided to add some really simple graphic stamping with some champagne gold shimmer because... why not!

When I saw that Sally Hansen was releasing a second collaboration collection with Sour Patch Kids for this Halloween season, I was super excited. Last year, I picked up three of the shades and did some nail art to feature all of them - you can check it out here, if you'd like - but this year I was lucky enough to be sent along the whole collection to swatch for you guys. This is a limited edition collection, so if you want to get your hands on it, I would recommend some urgency - I can't tell you how many LE Sally Hansen polishes I've slept on and regretted not picking up.

I am listing the swatches in alphabetical order, which doesn't quite flow the way I'd like it to, but it is what it is. Keep reading to check out the collection!

I'm a member of a Sinful Colors fan group on Facebook and it has taught me a few things. The first thing is that fans of Sinful Colors will go to great lengths to complete their collections and get their hands on limited edition or hard to find shades. The second is that here in Canada we don't get even a fraction of the cool stuff that the brand releases. I'm a big fan of Sinful Colors and I think they put out some of the most interesting and unique collections in the drugstore, but as a Canadian I definitely get a little bummed when we don't get the new, exciting releases. That said, the Sinful Colors Essenchills Collection, which is a scented collection that was released in the states earlier this year, has finally come to Canada and I could not resist tracking down every shade and swatching them here for you!

If you're a lover of drugstore beauty, the begging of a new year is a super exciting time as brands start pushing out new releases and there are always some surprises. This year one of those exciting surprises for me was the REVLON Ultra HD Snap! nail polish line. When I saw the cardboard display at my local Shoppers Drug Mart, I couldn't resist snapping up a few of the more exciting shades and trying them out.

I have to admit, I picked up the Versed Day Dissolve Cleansing Balm months ago, but since 2020 completely murdered my desire to wear makeup I spent months skipping my double cleansing routine and sticking to a single cleanse. However, I'm back to using a cleansing balm to remove my makeup and SPF at the end of the day and I've finally been reaching for this enough to give a full review. I'm a HUGE fan of a cleansing balm and I tend to feel like I just must get my hands on any cleansing balm available at my local drugstore, so when Shoppers Drug Mart started carrying Versed products this was the first thing on my mind to pick up.

For years now, the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri polishes have been a staple in my collection - in the drugstore they're some of the best, in my opinion, with incredible pigmentation and an easy to apply, quick dry formula. In recently years, they've also been doing some really interesting and exciting collaborations with brands that you  might not associate with nail polish, like Crayola and Jelly Belly. Their newest collaboration for Halloween 2020 is with Sour Patch Kids and I have to admit, I was kind of flummoxed and also excited by the pairing. I only picked up 3 of the shades from the collection - the most Halloween-y ones, in my opinion - and they're all créme shades, so instead of just swatching them, I wanted to do some simple nail art because... well, any opportunity to do nail art!

So, without further ado, keep reading to take a look at 3 of the shades from the new Sally Hansen + Sour Patch Kids Insta-Dri Halloween Collection!

I have to admit, I don't actually remember the last time I bought a pressed powder that wasn't one of those really finely-milled, super lightweight, translucent powders to set my undereye concealer. Over this past summer, though, as I pretty much entirely stopped wearing foundation and instead just used a very lightly tinted sunscreen, I wanted to find a powder that would add a bare bit of coverage and give me a really smooth, slightly blurred look. I don't actually remember whose review I saw of the Covergirl Clean Fresh Healthy Look Pressed Powder on Youtube, but it inspired me to pick it up and give it a go.

Blush is one of my personal favorite makeup products - perhaps because I am pasty and a blushless face makes me look... well, vaguely dead, if we're being honest. My blush collection is pretty significant and I definitely have favorites that I tend to reach for a lot, but recently I decided to grab a few new drugstore blushes to try out and add to the collection and I'm super excited to share my thoughts on them with you guys. The drugstore is great for blush and because blush is, let's be honest, pretty straightforward, I really don't think that you need to go high end to get a great blush for your collection.

I don't get super excited about eyeshadow palette releases the way I used to - probably because my collection is pretty much complete - but as soon as I saw the essence Bonjour Montreal Eyeshadow Palette online, I was hoping it would end up in stores locally. I mean, really if any palette in essence's line should be available in Canadian stores, it should be this one, right? So as soon as I saw it on the shelf at my local Shoppers Drug Mart recently, I grabbed it and couldn't wait to get it on my eyes.

I wanna open this post with two distinct truths. The first is that, with one exception, my skin has absolutely loved every peptide product that I've tried. Seriously, for about the past 4 years I've had a bit of an obsession with products containing various peptides, I wanna catch 'em all, but.... The second truth is that products containing peptides tend to be expensive. Why? Because peptides are definitely a higher cost cosmetic ingredients, which is of course why we do tend to see them in higher end skin care products. It's because of both of these truths that I get excited to try out lower cost options that contain peptides and why I basically stalked my local Shoppers Drug Mart to get my hands on The Inkey List Hepta-Peptide Serum. Because the world has been weird, I've gotten a little bit behind on my reviews, so I've actually completely used up this bottle at this point and definitely have thoughts on the product.

When the price tags for the new Cake Beauty skin care products started going up at my local Shoppers Drug Mart, they didn't have all of the products to go with them but I started scoping them out. The most exciting for me? Is anyone surprised that it was the Cake Beauty Gelato Cleansing Balm? I'm constantly on the hunt for more drugstore cleansing balms and on top of being at a great price point, it's from a brand that I've consistently enjoyed for the past few years. I have to say... it isn't what I was expecting, so if you're curious about it I would definitely encourage you to read on.

Lately, I've been doing a thing whenever I hear or see that there are going to be new cleansing balms launching in Canadian stores... I stalk them. Seriously, we have so few options on shelves here and they're something that I use every day and love immensely that I just absolutely can't wait to get my hands on them. Such was definitely the case with the Indeed Labs Watermelon Melting Balm, which I had to go to four Shoppers Drug Mart locations to finally get my hands on. I've actually been using this for a couple of months now and I'm really excited to share my review!

Admittedly, I tend to use my beauty sponges until they're basically falling apart from being jabbed with my fingernails and washed to within and inch of their lives, but they are definitely tools that need to be replaced with more frequency than others. Recently, I did a bit of a sponge cleanout and I knew I wanted to get some new ones and when I saw the elf Total Face Sponge Duo at my local Superstore, I decided I might as well give them a go and see how they fared. Even though I haven't actually been wearing much makeup for the past couple of months, I've been reaching for these sponges every time I have, and I'm ready to let you guys know how they worked out for me.

Recently, my local Walmart did their Wet N Wild display and there were quite a few new products on the shelves - so of course I had to reign myself in from buying a little bit of everything. I did, of course, pick up a few things though and two of those things are the Wet N Wild Megalast Lipsticks - available in high shine and matte finishes. Admittedly, at just over $4 each, I was tempted to go mad with lipstick buying power like I once would have, but I decided to be good and just try one of each to see how I liked the formulas.

When it comes to highlighters at the drugstore, my personal favorites have been and continue to be from Wet N Wild, so when I saw the Wet N Wild Hello Halo Blushlighter duos in the display at my local store I knew I had to pick one up. Although there were two different shade options in the display (3 available online), the clear choice for me was After Sex Glow (although, on the Wet N Wild website, I think this shade is called I Met Someone), so I grabbed it and couldn't wait to get it on my face.

For a long time, foundation primer wasn't something that I reached for with any consistency, but recently I've really sort of fallen in love with it for giving me a really smooth base for my makeup. I've been curious about trying a balm or putty style primer for a while now, but I wasn't particularly interested in picking up the Tatcha one and the much lauded elf one wasn't available locally so I never really bothered. Recently, though, I saw a review of the Hard Candy Smoothing Primer Balm in which the reviewer said it was a little bit creamier and more hydrating than those two I just mentioned and my attention definitely perked up and I couldn't wait to get my hands on it - so when I saw it on the shelf at my local Walmart, I decided to pick it up.

I have to admit, face palettes always tend to get my attention and I love to have them in my collection, but I try to reign myself in the best I can. That being said, there was really no way I could resist picking up the Physicians Formula x Weylie Hoang Butter Collection. I mean, really, a face palette featuring products in one of my all time drugstore formulas? This baby was always going to end up in my collection, even if I wasn't sure it was going to entirely be for me.

So how did it work out? Keep reading for more!

Hey, everyone! If you've been keeping up on the blog, you'll know that Catrice has really become a staple brand in my makeup routine in recent months and I've been consistently loving a lot of what I've tried from the brand. The eyeshadows in their Catrice x Eman Eyeshadow Palette* really, really impressed me, so, of course, I was really excited to try out the new Catrice Bad Ass Bae Eyeshadow Palette*, one of three palettes in their Bae collection.

I'm one of those people that has a fairly small handbag that I use every day... and it's just absolutely jammed full of products to keep my hands and lips moisturized throughout the day. Like, seriously,  used to keep 16 different lipsticks in my purse, but I've definitely transitioned more to lip balms and masks in my purse. So why am I telling you this? I wanted to give some context to my excitement over when a package arrived containing an entire range of Lip Care products from Catrice, because I was genuinely excited. Catrice has been a brand that I've been overwhelmingly impressed with over the past few months, and I personally found it really impressive that a drugstore cosmetics brand really does have this whole range of different lip care products.

Anyway, let's get into the specific products, shall we?

Are we surprised, friends? A new cleansing oil came out in the drugstore and I absolutely had to review it. Because I so massively love the Physicians Formula The Perfect Matcha Cleansing Balm, as soon as I saw that they had released a cleansing oil in their Organic Wear range, I was basically all in immediately. Literally, I bought it the day that my local Shoppers Drug Mart put out the display.

So, without further ado, let's get into my review of the new Physicians Formula Organic Wear Double Cleansing Oil, shall we?
