UNBOXING: Memebox Skin Food

by - November 04, 2014

Like I said with my unboxing of the my The Face Shop box yesterday, I absolutely had to order this. I've actually really enjoyed everything that I've tried from Skin Food before, which admittedly hasn't been much, and I've been eager to try other things. I'm super excited that this box actually contains one item that I've had in my cart on more than one occasion and have consistenly been wanting to try. It also contains what could easily be an entire skin care routine (if you're going to skip steps like essences and serums and emulsions, of course) which I think is a pretty smart way to curate it. Like the box from The Face Shop, this isn't anywhere near the highest value box that I've received, but I still feel like it's a good value.

Keep reading for a closer look at my Skin Food box!

This box contains 5 full size products. 4 out of the 5 products are skin care, hitting on the three main components of a skin care routine, and also includes a brow product.

Facial Water Vita-C Cream - 75g Full Size - Value: $13
Product Description:
Quench thirst by delivering a richly nutritious blend of Vitamin C complex and Alaska glacier water deep into skin. The Vitamin C complex contains extracts from raspberry, acai berry, cranberry, and strawberry and works to replenish healthy energy to dehydrated, dulled complexion.
How To Use:
Apply directly to clean face and let it absorb. It's recommended to be refrigerated for better moisturizing and soothing results. It can also be used as a hydrating pack by applying a thicker amount of the cream.

First off... I really like that these affordable skincare products still come in glass jars. Not only does it look really pretty, but I feel like glass maintains the product better than plastic. Admittedly, that might be in my head, but I'm still gonna prefer my glass packaging to a plastic tub. This cream has a fairly thin texture, but when applied to the skin it smooths on beautifully and sinks into the skin almost instantly, leaving behind a silky feel. In the jar, it has a light, fresh scent but I can hardly detect it at all on the skin. I like this idea that I can throw this in the fridge and use it as a really hydrating mask, which I will likely end up doing overnight. I'm really hoping that this will live up to its claims and make a really good, hydrating winter moisturizer.

Black Sugar Mask Wash Off - 100g Full Size - Value: $9
Product Description:
An effective facial exfoliator rich in various minerals and vitamins. Use occasionally to cleanse away excessive dead skin cells, oil and skin impurities piling up in the pores to make skin sensitive and troublesome. It'll bring back healthy radiance and suppleness to the skin with just a single use.
How To Use:
Spread the formula evenly over wet face after cleansing and gently massage into skin. Rinse after 10-15 minutes.

This was the item in the box that I had been lusting after for quite some time. It's a best seller on BeautyNetKorea and I've seen a lot of good reviews online. In fact, I've yet to see a bad review of this. I actually really like the idea of an exfoliating mask, because I have to be really careful with exfoliating because my skin gets irritated fairly easily. I like the idea that this has nourishing ingredients in it as well as exfoliation. This product comes in a generous plastic tub. The product itself looks just like a combination of dark brown sugar and olive oil, but it smells surprisingly fresh and lemony. This is definitely the product that I'm most looking forward to trying out and I'll probably be popping it on my face later tonight.

Egg White Pore Meringue Foam - 200ml Full Size - Value: $13
Product Description:
Abundant, meringue-like fine bubbles penetrate deep into skin without irritating or dehydrating the skin texture. Highly recommended for weak and sensitive oily skin types.
How To Use:
Lather well and gently massage onto face. Rinse off with lukewarm water.

Now that I'm literally to have to cut the corner off my Aqua Whip Hug cleanser to scrape out the last bits of it, I'm definitely in the market for a cleanser that will take its place. I have a few in reserve, mostly from other Memeboxes, and this is going to join them in the try it pile. I like that it says it won't irritate or dehydrate your skin, since those are my biggest issues when it comes to various cleansers and they end up directly in the garbage if they mess with my moisture barrier. I feel also like I need to do more research into this egg/pore correlation.

Tomato Whitening Toner - 180ml Full Size - Value $17
Product Description:
A premium Tomato Whitening Toner made from sun-ripe tomato extracts and Vitamin C complex to make skin brighter, clearer and suppler.
How To Use:
Apply with a cotton pad or directly with your hands to face and pat it in for full absorbance.

Is suppler really a word? Ahem. I feel like it shouldn't be, even if it is. Anyway. For a long time, I skipped toner because I really didn't think that I needed it. I think it's pretty easy to feel like it's not actually going to do anything and what's-the-point? but once I started reading into what toner actually does, I decided I needed to start including it in my skincare routine. To be really honest, I feel like I probably forget it more often than I remember it, but I'm working on it. Anyway, I also really hate the use of the word "whitening" in Korean skincare, even though I try to ignore the implication of that and pretend it just means that it's going to brighten my complexion and help with my hyperpigmentation. I am looking forward to trying this, though. Maybe, since it's small enough to fit on the shelf in my bathroom and won't have to be tucked away in the cabinet like my huge bottle of lemon witch hazel toner, I'll be more likely to use it on the regular? I think I can! I think I can!

OH! This product comes in a small, solid plastic bottle with a small hole and a stopper in the lid and it smells... pretty much like toner. I don't know that there's much else I can say about this without using it for a while. Stay tuned!

Choco Eyebrow Powder Cake - 4g Full Size - Value: $5
Product Description:
Formulated with cacao extracts, this Choco Eyebrow Powder Cake carries two naturally blending grey, khaki or brown shades for shaping and defining fine arches with an easy sweep.
How To Use:
Use the included brow brush to fill in your arches.

I definitely received the khaki shade of these powders and I'm really not sure what to make of them. I definitely always choose a more grey-leaning brown product because it's what looks most natural on me, but these take that to the next level. There's almost no brown in them, they're pretty much straight up grey. However, I will say that I love the smooth texture of them and the softness of the shades. I feel like if they shade works on me, I will be able to make it look really natural. And, really, if the shade doesn't work on my brows, these will still  make really great satin-matte eyeshadows. Can't lose, really, because the quality is definitely there.

Total Cost of this Box: $29
Total Value: $57

So there you have it. Like I said before, it's definitely one of the lowest dollar value Memeboxes that I've received, but I still feel like it was a pretty good value for my money. Also, I really have high hopes for all of the products included, which can rarely be said for any given Memebox since there's always at least one big fat dud right from the beginning. Not in this one. In fact, this might actually be one of the ones I'm most satisfied with. I love that I can easily get my hands on these products if I fall in love with them as well, that's always a big plus. I really kind of hope that Memebox features a second Skin Food box, because I'm in. Until then... I might have to pop over to a few KBeauty online stores and pick out a few more goodies. Isn't that always the way?
