UNBOXING: Ipsy September 2015

by - September 25, 2015

Should I call these Ipsy posts an unbagging? I'm one of those people who is really about the cadence of words, and the word 'unbagging' is absolutely horrible to my ears, so I tend to call it an unboxing even though it's a misnomer. Forgive me, I've been a little MIA this week, but it's been a rough month over here and I needed a couple of days away and quiet. I tried to schedule some posts... but that didn't work so well. Oopsie! Like I said, bad month. Anyway, this month's Ipsy was a surprising one since it actually included everything necessary for an entire eye look - which definitely feels like a bit of a switch from what Ipsy typically does. Anyway, no more adieuing because it could get weird....

Keep reading to take a look at what I got this month!

Ipsy NYX Eyeshadow Trio
I can't really assign a value to this, but I would say that it is full size. The colour selection is pretty good on this palette, however... This palette has really reminded me just how much NYX has fallen off in the quality of their shadows. Remember the old trios with the round pans? Those were INCREDIBLE. These are... distinctly drugstore eyeshadows. Fine, workable for newcomers to makeup, but entirely unremarkable.  Even though the shades are quite wearable, they're incredibly common and I definitely have multiple options in my collection that are higher quality in these shades.

Elizabeth Mott Queen Of The Fill Tinted Brow Gel
No beating around this bush... I love this stuff. Unlike a lot of my brow gels, this is not a fibre style product. It's a creamy brow gel in a very grey toned shade - which, as far as I'm concerned, is perfect. It has quite a small brush, though it is slightly larger than something like the Benefit Gimme Brow, and it works quite nicely to comb through your brows without having to be too precious so as not to make a mess. Overall, it's just really good and I've been reaching for it a lot since I received this last week.

J.Cat Beauty #MOTD Waterproof Slide On Pencil
I had really high hopes for this, since similar pencils from Urban Decay, NYX, and Holika Holika are some of my favorites, but unfortunately it's just not up to par. It's a really gorgeous Bronze shade and it really does set to a budgeproof finish. Unfortunately, it's so hard and stiff that it really doesn't slide on at all. I'm going to keep trying to work with this, because I do love the shade and finish, but if I find that it continues to drag and skip when I try to apply it I'm going to just toss it or give it away.

City Color Be Bold 3x Extreme Volume Mascara
Hmm. Okay, so, this actually does give a really pretty look to the lashes when you first apply, but it's quite wet and heavy so it makes my lashes droop. I think I might continue playing with this in hopes that it'll be a little more successful once it dries out some. It is very black, though, and does give a full, feathery look to the lashes, so I'm hoping that it gets a little better with age.

SO FRESH SO CLEAN Green Tea Wash-Off Mask
Do you guys like warming masks? I'm still not sure how I feel about them. When I tried this mask, I couldn't quite get comfortable with the warming effect on the skin, since it did feel almost feverish. However, my skin did feel very clean afterwards without any significant drying. I'm going to give this a couple more tries before I decide how I feel about it, because I am definitely on the fence. This could definitely be worth a try, though, if you already know you like warming masks.

Clearly I'm very much on the fence about this month's bag. I love that they included everything you need for an entire eye look, because I feel like that's a really fun overall bag to get, but the only real stand out in the bag for me is the brow gel. Still, for me that pays for the bag. And speaking of the bag... How adorable is this month's actual makeup bag? For fall, this one is going in my purse!

Thanks for reading! Let me know in the comments what you got in this month's Ipsy bag!
