REVIEW: e.l.f. Mad For Matte Palette

by - April 26, 2016

There are definitely some budget items that really stand out above all of the rest and I'd heard such good things about the e.l.f. Mad For Matte 10 Pan Eyeshadow Palette that I had a sneaking suspicion this was going to be one of those drugstore gems. Of course, it took us a while to get it locally here in Canada, but as soon as I saw it on the shelf recently, I knew I absolutely had to have it. I mean, don't get me wrong... That happens a lot. I'm a complete makeup junkie. But still, this one was in my basket without evening thinking about it.

Keep reading if you're interested in hearing more about this palette!

About:

The satin matte shadows can be used as a liner, on the lid, and in the crease of the eye for an expertly contoured and blended look.

The box for this product is a little bit deceiving because the palette is quite a bit slimmer than its outer packaging, but I love the sleekness of this packaging. The pans fill up the entirely case, meaning that you don't have any wasted space. I like the matte packaging, minimal branding, and the fact that it has a nice big mirror in it that is very functional.

I honestly think that the shade selection is pretty much perfect in this palette, particularly for what I intend to use it for. As you can see, there's a good selection of depths and tones in this palette, making is a perfect companion to any of your shimmery palettes that need some matte shades to ground your looks. I do wish that the two book end shades were a little more intense in their brightness and depth respectively, but I still think this are very workable shades. I particularly like the dark grey for deepening up the crease and outer corner because, unlike with a stark black, you don't have to worry about going too overboard. You can definitely use this on its own, and I have, but I know that I'm going to be reaching for this as a companion more often than a stand alone. A nice thing about that is that for travel, this is perfect. It's slim and easy to pack and has everything you need in it.

Now, of course shade selection means very little when you don't have a good formula, but luckily this palette delivers on that as well. Each shade is really creamy in texture and really clings to the skin. I do recommend that to get the most out of these you do use them with a primer or cream base, but they hold up really well on their own as well. I find these shades really build and blend beautifully on the eyes to create really soft, blown out looks.

As you can see from the swatch photo, the shade selection in this palette is really great! You have a good spectrum when it comes to both undertones and depth of the shades, which is what really makes this palette a winner for me. You can create all matte looks, pull in shimmers for a more dynamic look, keep things neutral, warm things up, cool things down, etc. It's really versatile over all, would be perfect for travel, but also perfect for the makeup lover who just needs a good everyday matte workhorse palette.

Honestly, I would recommend purchasing this to absolutely anyone who wears makeup, from the junkies to the toe dippers. And at $12CAD ($12US), it's pretty much a steal! Have you grabbed this palette up yet? I'd love to hear what you think of it in the comments!
