REVIEW: Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Lip 2016
Like most Sephora lovers, I love when they release their Sephora Favorites kit. Generally, you end up getting a selection of really great products at a really great price. Because I actually do kind of love deluxe sizes of a lot of makeup products - if only because I can almost never get through anything - these are the perfect kits for me. My favorite, and I suspect a lot of people's favorite, is the Give Me Some Lip kits. I love the large sized ones, which contain a ridiculous number of lipsticks, but I actually love the smaller kits even more! The last one that they released was the Give Me Some Nude Lip kit, and I absolutely loved it, so I clearly had to get my hands on the new Give Me Some Lip kit.
In case you feel like you missed out, I tried two Sephora stores and they were both sold out, but the next time I went back they had several on the shelf, so if you've tried to get ahold of it and haven't been able to... try try again!
Anyway, keep reading for a look at all of the products included in this kit!
This kit includes 6 products in total. 4 of the products are deluxe sample size and the other two are full size. For $33CAD, this is a pretty amazing value - both of the full size products retail for nearly as much as this entire kit!
The products included are:
Too Faced Melted Liquified Lipstick in Melted Chihuahua - 5ml Deluxe SampleNARS Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien - 1.7g Deluxe SampleKat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Lovecraft - 1.2g Deluxe SampleFresh SUGAR Rose Lip Treatment - 2.2g Deluxe SampleLancome Juicy Shaker in Boom-Meringue - 6.5ml Full SizeSmashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick in Stepping Out - 4ml Full Size
Fresh SUGAR Rose Lip Treatment
2.2g Deluxe Sample - Value $14.44CAD
The Fresh SUGAR Lip Treatments are a pretty big cult favorite and I've always been a fan, but I've never actually picked up a full size for myself because I do think that they're a little bit overpriced. The ROSE shade is a really pretty pink that gives a light flush to the skin and I also feel like this has a slight rose scent mixed in with the delicious lemony scent that all of these products have. I don't think this is the most intensely moisturizing lip product that you can find, but I do think it's great for day to day wear to give a hint of colour and keep the lips hydrated throughout the day.
Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick in Stepping Out
4ml Full Size - Value $28.00CAD
This was actually the product that sold this kit to me, because I've been dying to try out this formula and the shade felt like it would be right up my alley once I swatched it. On my skintone, I feel like this does deepen up and end up looking a little more brown than pink, but I really like how it looks. I've worn this a couple of times already and I think it's a really great formula. The wear time is great and it feels really comfortable on the lips without bunching up or getting weird. Having tried this, I think I'm going to have to grab another one or two of them for my collection, probably in fall shades.
Too Faced Melted Liquified Lipstick in Melted Chihuahua
5ml Deluxe Sample - Value $10.42CAD
I have a confession... As much as I've wanted to try the Too Faced Melted Lipsticks for AGES, I've actually never bought one before. This was another selling point of this box for me, particularly because the shade Melted Chihuahua was right up my alley. This is another one of those pinky brown neutral shades that is going to show up a little more brown on fair skin, but I definitely feel like this one pulls a little more pink than the Smashbox one on me. The formula is absolutely lovely and creamy and pigmented and all of the things that are promised, and it smells absolutely lovely. Again, this is pulling me deep into the Melted lipsticks and I'm going to have to grab more now.
Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Lovecraft
1.2g Deluxe Sample - Value $10.40CAD
This shade is one that I've been dying to try for quite some time and just never got around to picking up, so I was thrilled that it was included in this. This is a mauvey neutral shade that is pretty much bang on to what I like to wear, and while it does have those brown undertones to it, it still pulls distinctly mauve on my lips. The formula is just what I want a matte lipstick in a bullet to be. It applies really creamy and smooth with full pigment, doesn't drag at all, and feels like it's going to be long lasting. I've only tried this on, haven't worn it for a full day yet, but I'm already really, really happy with it.
Lancome Juicy Shaker in Boom-Meringue
6.5ml Full Size - Value $28.00CAD
Admittedly, these didn't really appeal to me until I got swept into the whole lip oil craze in the past few months and since then I've been eyeing these up. I mean, how cute are they??? I was a little bit surprised at how soft the sponge tip applicator on this is and I keep finding myself worried that I'm going to rip it off when I go to apply, so I try to bounce it gently on my lips. This shade looks really pink in the tube, but there's very little pigment to it and it mostly just gives a shine to the lips. Still, I do actually really like this and I think I'll keep using it.
NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien
1.7g Deluxe Size - Value $28.05CAD
This is the only product in this kit that I was a little disappointed with. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice product and I'm sure there are a lot of people who like it, but for me it's just not my favorite and I've already got it from the Sephora Birthday Gift last year. This lip pencil applies really smoothly and evenly with a bit of a sheerer coverage and a little bit of sheen to the finish. This shade is really wearable and great for everyday if this is the type of formula that you prefer. I'll probably end up giving this one to my mom, who will definitely lot it and doesn't already have it in her collection.
Swatches Left To Right: Lancome Juicy Shaker, NARS Satin Lip Pencil, Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick,
Fresh SUGAR Lip Treatment, Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick, Too Faced Melted Lipstick
As you can see from the swatches, this kit definitely doesn't have anything that is outside of the neutral lip realm and people who like bold or deep lips probably aren't going to find a lot here that whips them into a frenzy. (That said, take a look at the Give Me Some Bold Lip kit that's coming soon if you're looking for something a little less neutral!) Personally, these are the types of shades that I wear most often and they're a quite a bit deeper than the lipsticks from the Give Me Some Nude Lip kit from earlier this year, which I definitely appreciate. Honestly, I think this kit is right on trend and one that a lot of people will really enjoy.
If you can get your hands on this, I highly recommend it. At a value of almost $120CAD, this is a steal for $33 even if you don't love every single one of the products.
Have you picked up any of the Sephora Favorites kits? I'd love to hear about your experiences and favorites in the comments. Personally, I wish they would bring back the Sephora Favorites In The Glow kit from several years ago with updated products, because it was probably my favorite Favorites of all time!
Thanks for reading!
