REVIEW: Maison Jacynthe Fluide De Teint Fluid Foundation

by - October 19, 2017

I love trying out new foundations, I really do. I feel like I have to have several different foundations in my collection so that I have different levels of coverage and types of finish for various looks. Of course, whenever I get the chance to try out a new foundation I'm all in to test it. For the past couple of weeks, I've been testing out the Maison Jacynthe Fluid De Teint*. Not familiar with Maison Jacynthe? The Canadian skin care and makeup brand that was started by actress Jacynthe Renè that focuses on all natural formulas. I've tried some products from the brand in the past, so I was pretty excited to try out the foundation.

About:
This liquid foundation is easy to apply. Provides a perfect camouflage with an ultra natural finish. Its light texture gives you a more even tone and its formula, made with borage oil and coffee extracts, will keep your skin moisturized and protected. Soft texture and delicate perfume from argan. This fluid cream is a staple for daily makeup. Available in 5 colors.

When choosing my shade, I actually spent a long time deciding which shade I would choose. Ultimately, because I suspected that the lightest shade in Porcelain 01 would be too light for me and the next shade up in Sable 02 would be too yellow, I decided to take a risk and go with the shade Creme 03. This shade is actually pretty much a perfect match for me. It's still quite light and has peachy undertones. Since there are only two shades darker than mine, I definitely feel like the brand could do with an extension of their shade range to include some deeper shades because based on the pictures on the website I think anyone deeper than a medium complexion won't be able to find something to match them.

This foundation comes packaged in a really solid glass bottle with a pump. Though it is your standard 30ml size, this feels rather hefty. The pump works quite well and I find that it's easy for me to pump out just the amount that I need.

This foundation does have a scent to it, though I wouldn't say that I think they've added fragrance as it smells quite natural. It's actually hard to describe what it smells like, but I thought it bore mentioning that it does have a scent. Honestly, even at the end of my testing period, I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the scent. It's not offensive or anything, but I don't think it's my favorite.

When it comes to coverage and finish, I'd say that this is a light coverage foundation with a dewy finish that would work best for dry and mature skins. Honestly, when I first applied it I didn't really think that I was going to like it because I do tend to gravitate towards products with more coverage, but after a few minutes I found that it made my skin look naturally even and healthy, but not like I was wearing makeup. I've tested this with different primers and setting powders and what I've found is that it works best on my skin without primer and with a powder that isn't overly matte so that I can set the foundation without taking away from the dewy look too much.

I'd say the wear time is about average on me, giving me a full day of work but fading if I wear it into the evening. Because this is quite dewy, I have had to blot with powder on the oilier parts of my skin later in the day, but I haven't really noticed it breaking up or getting patchy on me and I haven't had any issue with it settling into pores or fine lines.

Overall, I think this is a great foundation option if you're looking for what it offers and that it could be polarizing for people based on taste. If you have dry or mature skin and are looking for something to just even out your complexion without really adding heavy makeup, this could be a great option. For me, I have a feeling this is going to be a winter life saver because it packs a lot of hydration and just makes my skin look really, really healthy. Because of the light coverage, I think this is also a great option for light makeup days and looks great with just a little blush for colour and mascara to open up the eyes.

The Maison Jacynthe Fluide De Teint* is available online and retails for $46 CAD.
