2017 FAVORITES: Cheek & Face Colour Products

by - January 03, 2018

You might be surprised (or maybe not) to learn that the types of products that I tend to have the most of in my collection are actually cheek products. I'm actually a bit of a fiend when it comes to blush, especially in the formulas that I love, and I absolutely love trying out and finding new amazing bronzers and highlighters. That said, this year there have been some SERIOUS standouts in this category and when I sat down to choose my favorites they were all really clear for me. Considering the size of my collection, I feel like the fact that choosing a Top 5 was this easy is a testament to how much I love these products!

Keep reading to see what made the cut!

essence Satin Touch Blush
Honestly, I've actually been a massive fan of essence blushes for a really long time. I feel like they're one of the products that essence does best, but the Satin Touch blushes really blew everything else in their permanent collection out of the water for me and I think they seriously need to expand the shade selection. These blushes have a really beautiful, soft texture and apply with a subtle glow that doesn't exaggerate texture but just really gives a healthy boost to the skin. In my opinion, these are some of the best blushes in the drugstore, period, and at around $3-4 they're also the best value you can find. Amazing!

tarte Cosmetics Amazonian Clay Blush
I feel like the tarte Amazonian Clay blushes are a bit of a cult favorite and I had enjoyed them in the past, but when this year's Sephora Insider Birthday Gift came my way... I pretty much didn't reach for anything else for the rest of the year. You may think I'm exaggerating... but nope. I feel like I've probably worn this 9 out of every 10 times I've worn makeup since the summer. The shade is just perfect for my skin tone. It gives me the most beautiful, naturally healthy looking flush to the skin that is absolutely never too much. Because I'm quite fair, I tend to prefer what I've heard described as "boring blushes," which is the perfect term. In the pan, they're hardly exciting, but they give the perfect look to the skin that complements a look rather than being too much. I actually ordered a giant tarte blush palette based on how much I love this one blush - it's not here yet, but I CAN'T WAIT.

Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer - Also a 2016 favorite!
If you, like me, have trouble finding a bronzer that doesn't look muddy on you 9 months out of the year and you haven't tried the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer yet... I do not know what you are doing with your life. Honestly, this bronzer has literally changed the way I think about bronzer. It gives me a very natural looking sunkissed look to the skin without ever running orange or looking muddy. It has a bit of sheen to it, but never looks shiny and instead just gives the most healthy look to the skin. I literally can't say enough good things about this bronzer. Also, I'm pretty sure that they've recently expanded their shade range so that someone darker than me might be able to find a shade that fits them! (Finally, right?) That's always been literally the only drawback for me in recommending this, but if the new shades widen the people it'll work for then I don't even have a nitpick. I'm obsessed with this bronzer.

Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder in Highlight 01
Here's a truth about me... I kind of hate really intense highlighter. If my highlighter looks too pigmented or too metallic on my skin, I take it off. So the perfect highlighter for me is definitely thie Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder in Highlight 01, which is my all time, ride or die favorite. Matte radiance might seem like a misnomer... and it kind of is. This gives that really beautiful lit-from-within look to the skin that you always hear about better than anything else I've ever tried. It catches the light really beautifully, but even when applied heavily it doesn't give you that metallic stripe at all. It's just beautiful and literally any time anyone asks me about a highlighter recommendation, I tell them that this one is spendy but the absolute best. Because it is.

w7 Strobe Time Palette in Its Glow Time
On the much more affordable, a somewhat more intense side of the coin, is the w7 Strobe Time Palette in Its Glow Time. I reach for this whenever I want something that's a little bit more intense, because it looks really beautiful on the skin and still manages to not be too much for me. My favorite shade in the palette is the peachier shade in the palette, which they've designated as "Strobe". Whenever it comes to products that are called strobing products, I think people think it should be the most intense of intense... but I think it actually means that it's a product that's going to be a little bit more subtle so you can use it all over your face without looking like the Tin Man. That's just what this is. It's a lot... but not too much, in my opinion. These powders are also a really beautiful formula, with a creamy texture and a lot of shine without any glitter. Perfect. And super affordable!

Honestly, all five of these products are ones that I've raved about both here on the blog and consistently in my real life. Whenever I get asked for a recommendation, which is pretty often since the people in my life know that I'm a total junkie for makeup, these are the ones that have been my go tos. And they're also the go to products that I've been reaching for in my day to day makeup routine. So good! What else can I say?

I'd love to know what your favorite cheek colour products are, so let me know in the comments!
