MANI MONDAY: Butter Bronzer Packaging Inspired Nail Art
Earlier this week when we decided that our #CBBxManiMonday theme this week be product packaging inspired, I loved the idea but had literally no idea what packaging I could base nail art off of. Luckily, the next morning when I sat down to apply my makeup, I picked up my much loved Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer and it clicked! With the purple, yellow and green gradient and the palm leaves, I knew that it could make for a really cool nail art. I had a bit of a nail catastrophe on Saturday and had to file all of my nails down to match the one that epically broke, which was a bit of a bummer, but I think the nail art still turned out pretty good!
Admittedly, the nail powder made the details of this mani a little bit difficult to capture, but as you can see I went with the gradient and stamping on my two middle fingers and then kept the outer two a little bit more simple with just polish and powder. For the simple nails, I used essence The Gel Nail Polish in Island Hopping* and then applied a thin layer of irridescent nail powder to get that shimmery, shifty look.
The gradient for this mani wasn't the easiest I've done because the order of these colours don't naturally mix together. I
experimented a little bit to get the shades that worked best and I ended
up using Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Glow With It, this deep purple
metallic from a Hard Candy holiday set, and essence The Gel Polish in
Island Hopping. It took a little bit of care and quite a few coats to
get the blend going, but I think it worked out quite well in the end.
The stamping was actually the game changer in this mani. I wanted to do a teal or green stamped image but I don't have a green or teal stamping polish and nothing in my collection stamped with enough opacity to show up. I remembered seeing a YouTube video recently where a woman applied nail powder to her stamper before doing her regular stamping and it gave a cool look so I tried it. Using the Born Pretty Store BP-L076 stamping plate and Bundle Monster Straight Up Black stamping polish along with an irridescent nail powder that I believe I got on eBay, I gave it a go! It ended up working quite well, but also not as expected. I suspect that if I wanted the powder to only stick to the stamped part of the image, I should have used a quite dry base coat first because I think my nails were still a little tacky and the powder stuck everywhere. That said, it did give a really cool look to the stamping - just doesn't pick up very well in photos!
Overall, I'm pretty happy with this mani - and I think I did a pretty good job of interpreting the Butter Bronzer packaging onto my nails!
As always, don't forget to head over to Cosmetic Proof and See The World In PINK to check out their packaging inspired mani's this week - I can't wait to see what they have in store either - and if you're interested in joining in on this week's theme, just use the hashtag #CBBxManiMonday so we can see what you did!
Thanks for reading!
