REVIEW: Weleda Nail Care Products

by - August 23, 2018

Hey guys! When it comes to nail care, I'll admit that I'm probably not the most versed. That said, since I've been focusing more on nail art in the past year I've been really trying to take good care of my hands - it always feels like a waste of a good mani if my cuticles look terrible. Recently, I had the chance to try out a couple of nail care products from Weleda and they've really been impressing me so I definitely wanted to share them here on the blog for you guys.

Keep reading for more!

Both of these products contain Pomegranate Seed Oil as a main ingredient. Because I was unfamiliar with it as a skin care ingredient, I decided to do a little bit of research, as you do. As we already know, pomegranate is high in antioxidants, which are great for protecting and maintaining healthy skin and that I haven't personally found in a lot of nail care products. One thing that I didn't personally know is that it also contains an Omega-5 fatty acid called punicic acid, which can reduce inflammation and aid in skin repair - great for those cracked, ugly cuticles that I definitely tend to get. On top of those benefits, Pomegranate Seed Oil penetrates into the skin well and provides overall hydration. Pretty good ingredient, I'd say!

Initally, I wasn't sure what the difference was going to be between the Cuticle Softener Pen* and the Nail Care Pen* other than the method of application. One has a marker-like tip and the other a brush tip, so I figured that I would just personally prefer one over the other and that would be it. However, once I used both of them I ultimately found that they both serve very different purposes in my nail care routine.

Weleda Cuticle Softener Pen*
With a very firm marker-like tip, this pen allows you to first apply the product to cuticles to soften them and them use the same tip to push them back, meaning you do have to reach for another tool. It doesn't deposit a ton of product, so this is definitely more for targeted cuticle work, but I do find that when I use it to push my cuticles back I end up really pushing some product into the base of my nail to have an overall softening effect on the skin around my nails. The marker tip is really firm, which makes it really effective at pushing the cuticle back without having to be too rough with your nails, but it also isn't really what I'd call hard so the whole process ends up being really easy and comfortable.

In all honesty, I initally thought that this was going to be the throwaway product of the two for me, but I've absolutely fallen in love with it and it's been getting consistent use when prepping my nails for polish and I know I'm going to keep using it. Luckily, because it uses so little product and comes with three extra tips, I have a feeling this one is going to last me a really long time.

Weleda Nail Care Pen*
Of the two, this was definitely the one I was most excited about, and it has definitely been the one I've been reaching for most consistently. With a brush tip and a twist up that allows you to push a small amount of product up into the tip, this is definitely my preferred way to apply my cuticle oil. However, I would say that this is definitely more of a melting balm than a typical oil. It's got a thicker, creamier texture initially, though it does melt quite quickly into the skin. Once I've applied it around the nail and under the tip on all five fingers, I massage it in one finger at a time to stimulate the area. It sinks in really quickly without leaving behind a greasy residue that might keep me from going about my day, but there is also instantly a solid amount of hydration there that makes my skin look healthier overall.

I kind of had a feeling I was really going to like this product, but I don't think I knew quite how much. I've actually been leaving this on the coffee table in my living room so that I can reach for it and massage it into my hands while watching TV or movies, and it's been really, really great. I've really seen results from this product.

So, like I said, initially I really thought that I was going to love the Nail Care Pen and have little use for the Cuticle Softener Pen, but I was wrong. Ultimately, both of these products provide different uses and results on my nails and both of them have become a really consistent part of my nail care routine. They also exist outside of any of the other products that I have in my stable for nail care, because they are both unique in their own ways. Either way, I really love them both and suspect that I'll end up reaching for and repurchasing them in the future as well!

Both of these products are available here in Canada on Well.ca and retail for $21.99CAD each.
