FIVE FOR FALL: My Favorite Fall Lip Products

by - October 03, 2018

When I sat down to put together my favorite lip products for fall, it was actually a really, really difficult process. I absolutely love fall lip colours and I could have gone absolutely mad with power. However, I was really determined to narrow it down so I literally grabbed the five products that I've actually been wearing the most for the last month as my fall makeup has really taken over. Admittedly, there are so many honorable mentions in this category that I could go on forever because fall is only second to the holiday season when it comes to loving lipstick for me. So is this an accurate representation of my absolute favorite fall lip colours? Maybe not. But it's definitely an accurate representation of my most reached for lip colours of the moment!

Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink in Seductress
They Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink formula is up there with my absolute favorites when it comes to long wearing lipsticks. It's the type of formula that stays on easily for a whole day through eating and drink and mashing my lips together the way that I do whenever I have anything on my lips and needs to be removed with oil at the end of the day, but it's also incredibly comfortable and doesn't feel heavy on my lips. I have several shades from this line but the one I've been reaching for the most recently has definitely been Seductress. It's a sort of hard to describe shade, actually, because I feel like it's quite nude, but it has hints of peach and terracotta that come out on my skin tone. Regardless of how I describe it, I feel like this is a perfect fall lip colour because it pairs really well with the types of eye looks that so many of us tend to go for at this time of year and has enough warmth to suit the season. It also allows for a bit of a heavier eye look for day time because I feel like it tempers them a little bit.

Of all of the lip colours in this post, I'd say that this is the one I've been reaching for the most. It's a formula that I'm obsessed with (and one that I find I reach for more often once summer has passed) and the shade is just so absolutely easy to wear.

L'Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Liquid Lipstick in Plum Bum
The formula of the L'Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Liquid Lipsticks is very, very similar to the Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink. It's incredibly long wearing while still being really comfortable. I honestly went back and forth between the shades Plum Bum and Coyboy for this post because both of them are ones that I've been reaching for a lot. I decided to go with Plum Bum because I did want to include something a little bit vampier. When I first picked this up, I was expecting it to be more of a mauve on me based on swatches I'd seen online, but this really pulls quite a lot deeper on my skin tone for a vampier lip look. When I use this lipstick, I tend to pair it with a pinky nude blush and a wash of warm brown eyeshadow, keeping the look simple so that the lip look doesn't feel too heavy. That said, I feel like you really can't go wrong with a vampier lipstick at this time of year.

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Walk Of Shame*
Have I mentioned that the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick formula is one of my absolute favorites? Because it is. It's worth every penny. This particular shade is a favorite of mine because it's so different from everything else I have in my collection. It's definitely a red, but it's a little bit warm and a little bit muted, making it a great way to wear a red lip when you don't necessarily want a statement lip look. My favorite way to wear this is sort of dabbed onto and rubbed into the lips for almost a stained look, paired with a heavier eye look with a lot of red or orange in it. I feel like it pairs beautifully and is really, really easy to wear that way. Also, like seriously, you can't go wrong with this formula.

Milani Color Statement Matte Lipstick in Matte Beauty
Formula that I love has definitely been a theme throughout this post and this definitely falls in line with that as well. At the drugstore, my absolute favorite matte bullet lipsticks are from Milani's Color Statement matte line, which have that modern creamy, silky texture that doesn't dry out the lips and has enough slip to be comfortable and enough cling to be relatively long wearing. Also, the mattes in this line smell really yummy as well, which never hurts. Matte Naked is a sort of caramel shade, but it has enough rosiness to it to keep it from being too close to that horribly underflattering shade I wore in junior high school in the 90s. It's just gorgeous and perfect for fall because it does have that strong caramel shade, but also really wearable for a wide range of skin tones. Love this one!

Avon True Color Lip Glow in Lightburst*
I have to say, I feel like this is sort of the wildcard of this post. Traditionally, I've never really been a lip gloss kind of a girl, but when this was sent to me I decided to try it out and I've found myself reaching for it a lot more often than I thought I would. I wouldn't say that this is a super opaque gloss, which is definitely my preference, but it really helps to even out the tone of my lips and it packs a good amount of shine without being too much. The texture is really smooth and comfortable and while I wouldn't call it particularly long wearing , I feel like this does maintain some shine and a very subtle colour on my lips for longer than a lot of other glosses that I've tried. I also find that I can apply this over some of the other matte options if I want that colour but want to add a little bit of shine. Like I said, I'm not really a gloss girl, so it's really impressive just how often I've been reaching for this lately.

I feel like this selection of colours sort of sums up fall for me. I like to keep things a little bit warmer but still have options for finish, formula and depth to pair with the different types of fall looks that I tend towards. I think we tend to think of fall looks as being quite smoky and vampy, but I feel like there's a balance to be struck when it comes to pairing eyes and lips for any season and because I like to vary what's happening on my eyes, it's nice to have a good selection of different types of lip products to pair with them.

What I'm finding as I really sit down and think about what I reach for in the fall, both with my lip products and the cheek products I featured in my last Five For Fall post, is that one of my favorite things about fall makeup is the ability to play, even within a sort of typical colour scheme that we all think of when it comes to fall. If you're looking for inspiration or feeling a little bit stuck when it comes to your fall makeup, I highly recommend sitting down and play with different pairings and see what really jumps out at you. Keep an eye out for my third Five For Fall post coming next week and featuring some palettes from my collection that I really love at this time of year!
