REVIEW: IT Cosmetics Secret Sauce Anti-Aging Moisturizer

by - July 31, 2019

I have to admit that I slept on the It Cosmetics Secret Sauce Anti-Aging Moisturizer*. When I initially tried it, I think my skin must have been in a weird place because I wasn't really wowed by it, but recently as I've been getting back into skin care hard I reached for it again and I've kind of fallen in love. I think sometimes it's really good to lay off a product that didn't really do it for you initially and then come back to it later to see if it really gets the job done for you. Anyway, this is definitely a product that I'm kicking myself for sleeping on, so let's talk about it!

Can we take a moment and talk about this pretty jar? Because this jar is PRETTY. It has this sort of iridescent sheen over the glass that shifts to rainbows when you move it. Is it holo? I dunno. It's PRETTY though. Above and beyond being a pretty, pretty jar to put on your vanity, it also feels really heavy duty and luxurious, which I absolutely require in a high end priced moisturizer.

Of course, we have to talk about the more important part, which is the actual product. I feel like I would be remiss with this review if I didn't go into a little bit of the ideas behind the formula. Of course, this cream contains powerhouse skin care ingredients like peptides, hyaluronic acid, vitamin C and licorice root, they're really focusing on the inclusion of their Secret Sauce Fermented Complex, which contains seven fermented ingredients.

Now, the science behind fermented ingredients in skin care is a little sparse - it is a fairly new trend in skin care, to be fair - but what there has been so far has really shown promise. The basic idea is that the fermentation process will help to make those ingredients more concentrated and more easily absorbed into the skin. Personally, I'm really interested in products that include fermented ingredients - especially considering how well this and the It Cosmetics Miracle Water have worked for me.

This cream has a rich, smooth texture that spreads really easily and gives an immediate look of hydration and bounce to the skin. I'd say that it mostly sinks into the skin within about 3-4 minutes, but every time I use this my skin really maintains a luminous, plump hydrated look and does actually feel a little bit tacky on the skin.

For me, particularly during these warmer months, this would be too heavy to use as a day cream but it's absolutely perfect as a night cream and really intensely hydrates my skin to leave it looking fresh and plumped in the morning. I do think it could actually work as a day cream during the colder months when my skin tends towards being dry, but I would probably give it some time to really absorb before applying makeup.

On the short term, as in when I wake up after using this overnight, my skin looks plump and hydrated, giving a more youthful appearance. The long term results have been even more impressive though. As I've continued to use this consistently as a part of my night time routine, I've found that this my skin tone has really looked more even and I've seen a boost in sustained hydration that helps my skin look more plump and youthful. I've actually been gravitating more and more to a more sheer coverage foundation or BB cream because I actually want my skin to show through!

Honestly, I can't believe that I slept on this product for as long as I did, because it's been working incredibly well for me and I know that it's going to become a staple in my beauty routine. More and more as I try these higher end types of night creams, I see a distinct difference between them and the lower cost options that moisturize your skin but don't pack a punch of other ingredients that will really help to improve the overall look and feel of the skin over time.

If you're in the market for a new night cream that packs a youthful punch or are just interested in trying out products containing fermented ingredients, I definitely think that the It Cosmetics Secret Sauce Clinically Advanced Miraculous Anti-Aging Moisturizer* is worth taking a good look at!

This product is available at Sephora here in Canada and retails for $90CAD.
