MANI MONDAY: Berry & Olive Flakie Gradient Nails

by - September 02, 2019

Happy Monday, all! I have to admit, that every year as soon as the calendar says September (and I celebrate my birthday, as I am today - hence the slightly late post) I put away summer things and transition firmly into fall things, regardless of the weather. Gone are the pastels and icy beverages, replaced with saturated fall colours and spicy hot drinks. I am a creature of habit and fall is my favorite season. So while I have to wait for it to be cool enough for sweaters and boots, I'm happily transitioning my nails into fall. For this month, our #CBBxManiMonday theme is Color Combinations, and today I paired two of my absolute favorites - Berry & Olive!

Keep reading to see how I got this mani!

Like usual, I had another plan but it didn't quite work the way I wanted it to, so I reached for a ride or die favorite of mine. OPI's DS Extravagance is probably my favorite polish of all time and one that always gets the job done for me - with one coat coverage at that! - so I applied one coat of it to all of my nails and let it dry completely.

For the gradient, I started by applying Chen Xi Star Glue to the tips of all of my nails with a sort of dry brushing technique to about halfway down the nail. Next, I went in with my NailStuff.ca Clear Stamper* along with BeautyBigBang Top Grade Duochrome Flakes in #10. To get the gradient, I actually used a fluffy eyeshadow blending brush to apply a dusting of flakies to my stamper and then used my NailStuff.ca Angle Silicone Tool to concentrate more flakies to one side to create the gradient effect. Finally, once the glue had dried clear, I just applied the flakies to my nails and used my fingertip to smooth over them to make sure I got that strong chrome finish.

I finished with a generous coat of OPI Plumping Top Coat and voila!
