MANI MONDAY: Fancy French Nails with Floral Accent

by - May 18, 2020

Hey guys! For this week's Floral themed #CBBxManiMonday, I had an idea that sort of jumped into my head and I knew that I had to do it. Ultimately, I have to say, this is probably more about the absolutely stunning base polish and the theme was more of an afterthought, but as soon as it came to me I wanted to get it on my nails immediately. I also have to warn that these photos are... a little less crisp than I might have wanted, but I actually had a really, really hard time capturing this base polish because it has so much texture and interest in it so they'll have to do. Shrug.

So obviously this mani is all about the base colour. Not only is it really the highlight, but it's also 100% of the inspiration. The shade is the GORGEOUS Cirque Colors Pink Lemonade, which is bang on perfectly named and is described as a sheer pink jelly nail polish with dazzling iridescrent flakes. I applied two coats of this as my base and then added a coat of Sally Hansen Insta Dri in Clearly Quick to give a nice smooth base. I actually put this on my nails and was just staring at it trying to figure out what kind of nail art I could do with it that would really pop. Because this is such an interesting shade (the color really shifts from this sort of more pale peach to a golden pink depending on the light) I wanted to add the gold to really tie into the base and then add the black to really add strong contrast and grounding.

I really, really like how this sort of diagonal overlapping French tip design looks and I really felt like the gold and black would pair well here. I actually started the stamping for this mani by adding the floral image to my accent nail so that it would sort of disappear into the tip design once that was added. I chose this floral image because I wanted it to be delicate and almost subtle, even though there's so much contrast with the black. For the French tip design, I actually just used a small rectangular stamping image, first applying the gold and then the black.

I actually didn't finish this mani with top coat, since I had already applied it over the base colour, and I just really liked the crispness of the stamping without top coat. So... voila!
