MANI MONDAY: Pink & Yellow Smoosh Feather Nails

by - July 03, 2020

There are a few nail products that I always end up busting out during the summer that generally end up tucked away the rest of the year and now that we're firmly into the hottest time of the year (seriously, I don't know about where you're at, but here in Winnipeg we've basically been melting for the past week...) I'm going full summer on my nails. For today's nail art look, I went with a long time favorite stamping plate, a couple of bold summer shades, and one of my personal favorite nail art techniques - the smoosh!

Keep reading for more!

For a smoosh, I always like to start with the lightest shade as my base, so I applied one coat of OPI's Don't Tell A Sol* from their Mexico City Collection and then applied cuticle barrier to all of my nails. With a smoosh, I always recommend using a cuticle barrier because... it's messy, friends. Next, I randomly applied dots of the polish to my NailStuff.ca Clear Stamper and then just... smooshed it on the nails until I got the desired look. Honestly, it really is just that easy. Once you've applied your smoosh, you're going to want to go in with a clean up brush and some 100% acetone right away, while the polish is still wet, to clean up the excess polish in your cuticle area. If you wait, it's going to be a pain to remove and could end up making the nail look funky, so definitely get in there right away.

Next, for my stamping, I went with the Maniology BM-S301 Stamping Plate from their festival plates collection from... years ago now. This set was actually one of the first I ever owned and continues to contain plates that I reach for. They've actually rereleased these designs on XL plates now and the image from this mani is available on Maniology M107 - and I highly, highly recommend.

Anyway, I used the same feather image for all of my fingers along with Born Pretty Store Black Stamping Polish, removing all but one feather for my first and pinkie fingers while using the full image for my two middle fingers.

Finally, I sealed the whole mani in with Seche Vive Top Coat and voila!

I'm extra excited about this mani because I actually (with the inspiration from one of my followers) finally pushed through my fear and filmed my first nail art video for this look. If you're interested in seeing how I do my nail art in an actual video form, I recommend heading over to @pblnails and following my nail specific account over there as that's where I'll be posting them. And I have a feeling, based on how much I'm enjoying it, that I'll be filming a lot of my nail art looks in the future!

If you're interested in picking up the NailStuff.ca Clear Stamper that I use for all of my smoosh mani's, feel free to use affiliate code TRYSH for 10% off your order!

Thanks so much for reading and don't forget to head over to Instagram to check out how I put this mani together!
