MANI MONDAY: Pacific Blue Under The Sea Nails

by - August 03, 2020

There are a handful of polishes in my collection that fit into a very specific category that means that I don't pull them out very often. All of these polishes are no longer available (or in this case, reformulated to be a completely different animal) and absolute long time favorites of mine, ones that I don't want to actually finish up. I think for a surprising number of people, Sally Hansen Pacific Blue (the original formula and shade) is one of those polishes. Seriously, they changed this polish like... five years ago? More? I don't know, it's been a long time since this version was available and it's such a perfect drugstore polish that it's one I sort of cherish in a weird way. Anyway, I got an idea in my head for this mani and I knew that I wanted to pull this one out of the vault and put it to good use.

So for this mani, I started with two thin coats of Sally Hansen Pacific Blue (original formula) on all of my nails. I could have gotten away with one coat because this polish has that much coverage, but I personally prefer two coats for the thickness on the nail so I went with two. Next, I wanted to add some texture and life to the base, so I added a coat of ILNP Luna, which is a multichrome flakie topper that is gorgeous. I tried REALLY hard to capture how gorgeous this looks on camera, but it just doesn't read in photos the way it does in real life, so I ask you to trust me. The dimension this topper gives is gorgeous.

I wish I could remember the nail artist that inspired this mani, but at this moment I can't and I sincerely apologize. I saw someone do a gorgeous blue on blue mani with dolphin stamping recently and that's what put this in my head. I decided to reach for the Maniology (formerly Bundle Monster) BM-XL212 Stamping Plate, because it had these really gorgeous under the sea stamping images, and the Mercury Baseline Stamping Polish because it was very much the same tone of blue as the base colour, but a much lighter shade. I kept it pretty straight forward with the stamping, using mermaid, dolphin, and fin images to give a sort of under the sea feel.

To finish, I applied a generous coat of Seche Vive Top Coat and voila!

Even though this is a pretty simple mani, if you want to see how I did it, head over to @pblnails on Instagram to check out the video tutorial and follow me there for more nail art videos. I'm trying to film all of my mani's now and I'm having such a good time with it so I'm super excited to share them!

For August's #CBBxManiMonday theme, we're continuing with Summer Lingo and, admittedly, I cheated and went for Mermaid again.... and if I'm right, I just might end up cheating and repeating again. The heart wants what the heart wants, am I right?

Be sure to head over to Cosmetic Proof and See The World In PINK to check out what the ladies have on their nails this week!
