NAIL ART: Black & White Sunflower Nails

by - August 05, 2020

I have to admit, I'm SO excited for today's nail art because it's one that I've been wanting to do for ages. Until recently, I hadn't tried out any of the Whats Up Nails stamping plates because I tend not to order a lot from the US, but I finally got my hands on some of the ones that I'd been lusting after and I've been obsessed. Whats Up Nails B044 was probably the plate I'd been lusting after the most and the sunflower image I used for this mani has been in my head for literally months, so when I got it I knew that I wanted to do a sunflower mani using it. (And now that I've done one, I want to do them in every colour....)

Anyway, keep reading for more!

Initially my plan was to go pretty traditional with a warm yellow sunflower with a brown center... but then I sort of threw that out the window and decided to do a sort of white on white mani. I started with two coats of Night Owl Lacquer's That's Why They're Monsters, which was recently passed along to me by a friend who had it in her collection but wasn't using it. (I am definitely going to be using it like crazy because it's right up my alley, and now I have to take a closer look at Night Owl Lacquer, if we're being honest.)

Anyway, for the stamping, I obviously used the Whats Up Nails B044 From Ground Comes Life stamping plate along with Born Pretty Store stamping polish in Throne. I decided to do my two middle nails with the large flower image and then add some of the falling leaves sort of randomly over my nails. (This mani is inspired by the many nail artists who have done this before me and whose mani's are what made me buy this plate.) I filled in the image with Born Pretty Store stamping polish in Pure for the petals and Polished For Days Eudaimonia and let that dry down on my stamper head. I applied a coat of Orly Bonder Base Coat and let that get tacky on the nails before transferring the images over, placing the large flower images at the base of my two middle fingers and then just sort of randomly placing the fallen petals where they felt right.

I finished with a generous coat of Seche Vive Top Coat and voila!

As usual now, please feel free to head over to @pblnails over on Instagram to see a video tutorial of how I did this, especially if you're interested in reverse stamping. It can be a little bit intimidating at first, but it's actually a pretty easy technique and yields really, really beautiful results. Follow me over there to see all of my nail art videos!

I wasn't joking when I said that I want to do this mani - or something very similar to it - in every colour. I think this is one of my favorite stamping images ever and I can already picture how different placement and colour story would give it a surprising amount of versatility. Also, my obsession with Whats Up Nails plates is very, very real. Keep an eye out for more nail art featuring the brand in the future!

Thanks for reading!
