REVIEW: COVERGIRL CLEAN FRESH Healthy Look Pressed Powder

by - September 17, 2020

I have to admit, I don't actually remember the last time I bought a pressed powder that wasn't one of those really finely-milled, super lightweight, translucent powders to set my undereye concealer. Over this past summer, though, as I pretty much entirely stopped wearing foundation and instead just used a very lightly tinted sunscreen, I wanted to find a powder that would add a bare bit of coverage and give me a really smooth, slightly blurred look. I don't actually remember whose review I saw of the Covergirl Clean Fresh Healthy Look Pressed Powder on Youtube, but it inspired me to pick it up and give it a go.

One thing that I can't handle is cakey looking or feeling base makeup, which is why I've always been setting my foundation with either a light dusting of loose powder or not at all for the past several years. What drew me to this one was the promise of it being lightweight and pore blurring, which is exactly what I was looking for in a powder that I would be using to set my sunscreen. I wasn't really looking for coverage with my powder, just a smoothing, slightly mattifying effect - not matte but, you know, taking down any shine left behind from my SPF.

This is a pretty cute compact, right? I'm not much of a pink kind of a girl, but I still appreciate it. Also, it has a nice weight and sturdiness so I would have no problem just tossing it in my purse for touch ups because I don't think getting bashed around a little bit in my bag will damage it. The mirror is also really nice, good quality, and really fills the compact so that you can get the most out of it. From a packaging perspective, I'm on board. I will admit, though, the puff that's included is just never going to get used by me. Like I said, I'm not looking for coverage and I just... don't love using a puff on my face and then sticking it back in my compact. It's a fine puff though and I'm sure it'd get the job done.

Texturewise, this powder lived up to exactly what I was looking for. It's definitely lightweight and I'm not even sure it would be possible to accidentally cake it up, so I don't have to be too precious about my application. The most impressive part for me is that it really does have a beautiful blurring effect on the skin. I find that sunscreen can tend to add shine to the skin, even the ones I prefer, and that can really emphasize the look of pores and texture on the skin and some powders can get heavy and ultimately emphasize those things even more. This powder immediately blurs the looks of the skin really noticeably and I find it maintains the smoothness for a surprisingly long time without having to reapply.

Like I said, I didn't really buy this as a coverage sort of product, but it does claim to be a buildable coverage. For me, just by virtue of the way that I use this product, I haven't really been able to test that claim, but I do find that there's enough pigment in here to give me a sheer coverage that gives a slight evening effect to the skin.

Because I've been so much about lightweight products on my face this past few months, this powder has become an absolute favorite. More and more, I'm finding myself moving away from wanting to have a lot of coverage and leaning more towards showing my skin and just using concealer in the spots where I need a little bit more coverage, so this has really been fitting in perfectly with what I want in a complexion product. The blurring is super impressive and the light amount of coverage it has makes everything look just a bit more even. If that's what you're looking for, I would highly recommend checking this powder out!
