NAIL ART: Soft & Cozy Fair Isle Nails ft. Picture Polish London

by - January 15, 2021

I must say, I just love a sweater nail, but I generally leave them for the holiday season. Of course, there's a cozy zone that I think most of us in climates with profoundly cold winters go into as soon as the snow flies and I continue to be firmly tucked in there, so choosing a fair isle stamping image to go with a shade that elicits thoughts of the coziest cashmere to me for some reason just made sense. Recently I picked up a few new polishes from Picture Polish (finally!) and one of them was London, which is a gorgeous blue shade that just screamed cozy to me even though it's quite cool toned.

I feel like, with my very limited and brief experience with the brand, that Picture Polish has some magical holo flakes. There's just something about them that manages to be perfect in a way that I struggle to really describe. They're super evenly distributed in their formulas and add the pretty holo rainbows but also a really nice look of texture to the formula (but don't worry, they do dry smooth!) Honestly, I'm just gonna go ahead and say it - holo hasn't been my thing for a while now, I just don't like it in the way that I used to, but when it's in this really fine flake form that Picture Polish uses... just love it. Want all the colours. And also, I find that these polishes strike a really nice balance as bases for nail art because they give me enough that I'm not bored, but they're also subtle enough to work as a base. My brain is a weird place, I will admit, but I definitely feel a certain type of way about nail art bases and these polishes are just killing it for me in that regard.

For this mani, I applied two coats of London to all of my nails as my base!

I wanted to keep the stamping for this mani super straight forward, so I chose this one image from the Whats Up Nails B022 Winter Time stamping plate and applied it to all of my nails, resisting the urge the alternate the direction of the placement and instead keep all of the nails the same. I really love this image because it manages to stay pretty simple while also still really filling the nail. Also, who doesn't love those classic nordic stars in this type of design?

Once I was finished with the stamping, I applied a layer of water based top coat to seal it in and then finished with a glossy top coat and voila!

Have I gushed enough about Picture Polish yet? I think I probably have - and also, I've got more nail art to come featuring their polishes so I'll certainly be doing some more gushing soon! I love how this mani turned out - there's still a part of me that associates sweater nails with the holidays, but I also still haven't taken down my Christmas tree or stopped wearing novelty holiday socks, so....
