NAIL ART: Art Deco Marble Pond Mani

by - March 04, 2021

Hey guys! I always find that I really wanna participate in the nail art challenges that I see all over Instagram... but I'm a weirdo with a weird brain and I get shy and awkward and I never get to the point where I dig in. However, this month Whats Up Nails (a favorite brand of mine when it comes to all things nail art) is running a contest with a series of prompts for nail art techniques so I decided I wanted to dive in and try out as many of them as possible.

So keep reading to check out Mani #1 for the Whats Up Nails March Nail Art Challenge!

If you're unfamiliar, a Pond Mani is essentially a mani where you sandwich some sort of nail art between layers of a jelly or otherwise sheer nail polish to create some depth - like you're looking through water. I had a few ideas besides this one, but ultimately I just wanted an excuse to create another stone look type of a mani so I went with this one.

I started with Polished For Days' Fern, which is a coral pink base with iridescent and holo flakes in it, because I wanted to have some depth and texture tucked in to the background. I applied one coat of Fern and then went in with my first coat of stamping, half of the large marble veining image from Maniology M020, and then sandwiched that with another coat of Fern. Next, I went in with the other half of the marble image for my second layer of stamping. Because I didn't want the white on that second layer to be too stark and ultimately I just wanted to soften the whole nail, I then went in with a layer of Cutex BB Nail Concealer, which is a neutral beige shade that's quite sheer and just served to soften everything up.

At this point, I decided that I wanted to ground the mani overall with some really graphic black stamping so I used the triangle images from the same stamping plate and applied a different one to the tip of each of my nails. I like when each nail is a little bit different, but they're also all the same.. know what I mean?

Once I was happy with the nail art, I sealed it in with a no smudge top coat and then finished with a quick dry glossy top coat for shine and voila!
