NAIL ART: Rainbow Heartbeat Pride 2021 Nails

by - June 07, 2021

Happy June, everyone! For our #CBBxManiMonday theme this month, we've decided to focus on Allyship in celebration of Pride Month as well as Indigenous History Month. My whole life it has really felt important for me to stand beside marginalized communities and support them as an ally in ongoing fights for respect, safety and equality. As time has gone by and my own privilege as a white, cis Canadian woman has really become apparent to me, that has felt even more important in my life.

Keep reading to the end of this post for links to some reputable organizations that support LGBTQ+ issues here in Canada and, if you're able, please do consider donating to help support their programs!

I woke up with this mani in my head. Honestly, I had sort of been wracking my brains to try and think up some rainbow themed mani's for pride and I woke up yesterday morning with this one in my head and basically sat down to get it on my nails as soon as my coffee was brewed. I started, as I tend to with this style of mani, with one coat of OPI's Robots Are Forever, which is my all time favorite OPI polish and was not only limited edition, but exclusive to Ulta, so I am halfway through my only bottle and absolutely whimpering about it already. This polish is a beautiful sheer white that's just packed with silver flakes and it's basically perfection. Whimper....

Next, I created my rainbow using (mostly) Whats Up Nails Stamping Polishes. I decided to go with these because they're insanely pigmented (obviously) and pack a really strong colorful punch. Because I don't yet own an orange stamping polish from WUN, I went in with a Sally Hansen Insta-Dri orange polish, which held up pretty well. This was really just  simple dry brush technique, but I did keep the tips of the nails quite opaque and brought the color about halfway up the nail. I decided I wanted a little bit more rainbow, so I followed the drybrushing with a layer of fine holo top coat for a little bit more punch.

For the stamping, I decided that I wanted to use this EKG image to sort of evoke that feeling of heartbeat and life that I think is so intrinsic to the LGBTQ+ community. I feel like that really evokes the spirit of Pride, that life and vibrancy. I applied the image in white to get a really strong contrast over those bright colors.

Once I was happy with the stamping, I finished with a generous layer of quick dry glossy top coat for shine and volume and voila!

For me, allyship means a lot of things and it's something that I strive to practice consistently in my life. One way that I think we, as allies, can always help is to donate to organizations with boots on the ground and and understanding of how best to help and support communities like the LGBTQ+ community. If you're looking to help, I recommend checking out these groups:

EGALE Canada Human Rights TrustEgale is working to improve and save LGBTQI2A lives through research, education, awareness, and by advocating for human rights and equality.

PFLAG CanadaPFLAG Canada is a national non-profit organization which brings together family and friends of LGBT people in Canada. We are Canada's only national organization that helps all Canadians with issues of sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression.

For more organizations all over the country that are focused on LGBTQ+ issues and support, this is a really solid list with a wide range of focus and I would recommend checking it out! If you are able, there are so many great organizations that could really benefit from your donations!
