NAIL ART: Classic Turquoise Pineapple Mani

by - August 05, 2021

At this point, I really feel like the yearly pineapple mani is a bit of a summer staple and I'm currently definitely having a bit of a moment with fruit themed mani's and the Whats Up Nails B008 Summer Seeds Stamping Plate. I love this plate, I really do, and I think there's really just so much you can do with it - especially if you're into reverse stamping. Reverse stamping, for me, is something that I have to sort of hype myself up to do because my brain is always convinced that it's going to go badly - but it actually rarely does and is usually worth it. Anyway, this is a great plate and a solid one to have in your collection.

I actually went back and forth a few times on what I was going to choose as my base polish for this mani, but ultimately I decided I wanted to keep it really classic and go with a turquoise. Something about the turquoise background paired with the bright yellow and green pineapples just screams tropical to me... or is it Hawaiian shirt? Either way, it definitely had to be a beautiful turquoise shade, so I decided to go with All Of The Stars from Different Dimension. I mean... how could I not? Not only is this sort of the perfect shade, but I feel like the shimmer and flakies in it adds to that really tropical ocean feel that I was looking for.

For this mani, I applied two coats of All Of The Stars and let them dry down completely.

For my stamping, I wanted to pick up the image in black to keep the contrast really strong and I wanted to fill with a really classic primary yellow along with a mid-depth green with yellow undertones. I feel like choosing the right colours for the fill is more important than you might think, so I'm really happy with how these two choices turned out. I used a dotting tool to fill in the image and let it dry on the stamper head to the point that it was dry to the touch but still a little bit squishy. I applied a cuticle barrier and a thin layer of sticky base coat, letting that dry down to tacky, and then transferred the image to my nail. Next, because there were some larger gaps in the image that felt a little bit stark to me, I went in with a little bit of black stamping polish and my dotting tool to add a few dots around the image to fill it out and add some visual interest.

Once I was happy with my design, I sealed it in with a water based top coat so that the design wouldn't smudge. Once the whole design was completely dry, I followed with first a glitter smoothing top coat to help smooth out the places where the reverse stamping left raised images and then finished with a quick dry glossy top coat for strength and shine. And voila!

I mean... how can you go wrong with pineapple nails on a turquoise base? Answer: I really don't think that you can. It's just a classic at this point and I would 100% wear it on the shirt.
