NAIL ART: Taupe & Copper Waterfall Grunge Nails
For a while now, I've been eyeing up my bottle of Winter Dusk** from Black Dahlia Lacquer's NailStuff.ca Exclusive Duo and absolutely loving it, but unsure what I wanted to do with it as far as nail art. It's such a unique and DISTINCTLY fall shade that I knew I wanted to use it for some nail art this month, but it needed to be the right nail art. And thennnnn I just happened to have the KADS Fashion 083 plate out from my last mani and it lightning bolted me right in the head.

Winter Dusk is described as "a taupe polish with a subtle ultrachrome shimmer that shifts from red to gold to green" and I would say that it definitely behaves, for me, very much like a traditional créme polish with just a little extra something. The formula is really, really lovely and applies smoothly with 2 coat opacity on me. It was definitely that extra something in the formula that gave me pause for how I wanted to use this, but also it's what inspired this look overall. That subtle shimmer running through this polish, which is much more visible in person than in photos (although the macro shot below definitely gives some hint) has this really warm vibe to it that I knew I wanted to pair with a fiery shade like copper to really compliment it.
For this mani, I applied two coats of Winter Dusk as my base and let them dry down completely.
The reason that I bought this specific plate was definitely that I really liked these what I like to call waterfall types of images and this plate has several of them that I know will be really beneficial to have in my collection. For this mani, I considerd just applying one of these images to all of my nails, but ultimately I decided that I wanted to just go all out and apply a different image to each nail. I also didn't want to just use the straight copper polish, so I paired it with a really warm toned brown cream stamping polish that I think adds a little bit of dimension that adds to the look without really being obvious at the end of the day. Sometimes I think those are the details that make the most difference when it comes to art in general, the things that subtly add dimension and depth. (Am I taking this too seriously? Probably...)
Anyway, once I was happy with my stamping, I sealed the design in with a layer of water based top coat and then finished with a quick dry glossy top coat for shine and volume. And voila!

I really like the pairing of this really muted base with the stamping that references that subtle shimmer running through it but also provides a good amount of contrast. I definitely highly recommend both this base polish (keep an eye on the blog later this week for another mani featuring the other half of this dup) as well as this stamping plate. Both just really perform beautifully. Also, if you've never shopped NailStuff.ca before, be sure to use affiliate code TRYSH for 10% off your order!
