NAIL ART: Art Deco Inspired Graphic Wallpaper Nails

by - January 14, 2022

I will fully admit that I absolutely love graphic vintage wallpaper. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to put it up in my house becasue I don't really want to be surrounded by it, but these designs that either harken to the art deco or mid-century modern periods are always really inspiring to me when it comes to nails. For today's mani, I used a stamping plate that has two different layered stamping designs that really felt like they called to the art deco era, if a little bit more of a modern take, and I decided to pair them together for an alternating design mani - and I'm kind of swooning.

The color story from this mani really did come from what was in front of me and the real anchor for it was two new-to-me Dimension Nails shades that I received in PR from NailStuff.ca. In case you're unfamiliar, Dimension Nails makes some of the most beautiful, pigmented créme polishes out there and continues to just absolutely blow my mind every time I try a new shade.

For this mani, I started by appling one coat of Mangrove Kingfisher**, which from their Swamp Collection and is, I'd say, an ashy medium blue with just a hint of teal to it. It's... STUNNING. And honestly, the one coat was plenty to give me opacity and a really smooth finish. I also reached for Vegan Gains** for this mani, which is a really soft neutral dove grey shade, because I didn't have quite the right grey stamping polish in my collection for what I was going for here. I was absolutely blown away by how this performed as a stamping polish - it picked up really crisp and beautiful and showed up with really solid opacity both over the darker blue shade and next to what I think is arguably one of the best stamping polishes of all time in Whats Up Nails' Neither Noir. Amazing, amazing, amazing. Please, if you haven't already, check out Dimension Nails polishes. They are just absolutely mind blowing.

Initially, I had actually planned to do the same stamping on all of my nails, but decided at the last minute to break up the design by alternating between two patterns that I think compliment each other really well. These images are intended to be layered and I actually think they're a really, really good place to start when it comes to layered stamping because they aren't as fussy as some images when it comes to getting perfect placement. For all of my nails, I started with the grey stamping and then did the black second. I did it this way because I figured that any wobbles or slightly off placements would be a little bit more camouflaged with the black on top.

Once I was happy with my stamping, I went in with a nail art top coat to seal it all in and then followed with a glossy top coat for shine and volume. And voila!

Coming away from this, honestly, I'm just so insanely impressed with how both of these Dimension Nails polishes performed in this mani. With the base being a stunning on coater and the grey working beautifully for stamping, Dimension Nails just really, really did it again on this one. In case I haven't raved about them enough...
