NAIL ART: Bright Pink & Yellow Stamped Marble Nails

by - June 10, 2022

I have to admit, today's mani has a very, very specific inspiration but also looks pretty much nothing like what it was inspired by - unsurprising to me, as I understand my brain, but might seem a little bit weird to others. I was actually inspired by a set of full cover water decals from Whats Up Nails and I would have happily done a straight recreation if I'd had a stamping image that would have worked, but the color story and the overall vibe were enough to really inspire me to create these nails and they're definitely summery and fun.

I think the thing that really grabbed me the most about the water decals that inspired this mani was the color story. The base was quite a bold orchid purple and then there were sort of swirling designs in a warm pink and a bright yellow and to a degree I tried to recreate that here. I went with a more pinky base with Great Lakes Lacquer's Bubblegum, which was from a collab and is unfortunately no longer available, and applied two coats to all of my nails. I do think that this polish does have that orchid purple lean to it, which works well to reference the inspiration, and it's packed full of warm toned flakes that work really cohesively with the stamping.

For the stamping, I decided to go with a marble style because it felt like it had the right movement and flow to give the same vibe as the inspiration. I used the same two images for all of my nails and alternated the direction I placed them to get some added visual interest. I started with a heavier marble image stamped in the bright pink stamping polish, and then followed with a sort of wispier, finer lined image in the yellow on top. The yellow wasn't quite opaque enough over the pink to completely cover it, but it ended up creating some added orangey coral dimension that I actually think works really well with this overall look, so I'm definitely not mad at it.

Once I was happy with my stamping, I sealed it in with a layer of nail art top coat and then followed with a quick dry glossy top coat for shine and volume. And voila!

I have to say, I'm so glad that I decided to really stop and let the inspiration I felt lead me when I saw those Whats Up Nails Water Decals (listed in their Semi-Annual Sale, which is currently running, for $1, if you're interested in trying them out.) I actually have a sneaking suspicion that there may be some more nail art coming in the near future inspired by some of the other designs on the site, so keep an eye out.
