NAIL ART: Minimalist Pink Abstract French Mani

by - November 28, 2022

So I have to admit that I'm not entirely sure what it was that inspired this mani, but I'm actually pretty stoked at how it turned out. Abstract is obviously and necessarily a wide open sort of thing that doesn't really have any rules, but since my brain doesn't really work without having some rules and parameters for things, I tend to be very particular about how I put together abstract nail art and I tend to relate a lot back to classic designs - like French, in this case - and then play around with how I can manipulate those classic styles into something new.

I have to admit, the color story for this mani was entirely inspired by the fact that I just really, really wanted to create some nail art using Whats Up Nails Mauver And Shaker*, which this gorgeous mauve pink créme base warmed up with this really fine pink to green iridescent duochrome shimmer. I decided to lean into that warmth when I chose my stamping polishes. Of course, I decided to ground the design with black, but along with that I grabbed a pale taupe and a warm chocolatey brown that I think maintain an earthiness that works well with this shade of pink.

To start, I applied two coats of Mauver And Shaker to all of my nails and let those dry down.

Now, for the design, I was inspired by these really simple sort of squiggly images on the brand spankin' Whats Up Nails A026 All Lined Up Stamping Plate*. I liked the idea of layering them to sort of create a scribbled French tip design. I started by applying the first, more straight lined scribble image first in the taupe stamping polish and then in the chocolate brown. Next, I went in with the second stamping image, which has a more swoopy sort of vibe and I applied that in black. Finally, I decided the design was a little bit bare at the base of the nails, so I went in with a dotting tool and my black stamping polish and I applied clusters of dots at the top corner of each nail.

Once I was happy with my design, I sealed it in with a generous layer of nail art top coat and then finished with a generous layer of quick dry glossy top coat for shine. And voila!

So this is our last week of fall themed #CBBxManiMonday's for November and I think this one sort of sneaks in on a technicality with the warmth of the these shades... or I'm just fudging that and doing what I want. Could be that.

Anyway, be sure to check out these new products from Whats Up Nails, including their Gust of Wind nail polish collection and new stamping plate. And, don't forget to head over to Cosmetic Proof and See The World In PINK to check out more fall themed nails for #CBBxManiMonday!
