NAIL ART: 80s Graphic Abstract Pastel Nails
When I tell you I was excited about the new Whats Up Nails Bloominosity Collection*, I was REALLY excited. I love Whats Up Nails Stamping Polishes, so I'm always excited about a new launch, but I was particularly excited that they were doing a collection of pastels. Pastel stamping polishes aren't as common as one might hope and I pretty frequently do find myself wishing that I had a full rainbow of them in my collection - and now I do! As soon as I had them in hand, I wanted to use them and I was 100% ready to go fully kitchen sink with them... so I did! Minimalist, this mani is definitely not.

I really wanted these pastel stamping polishes to be the star of this mani, which meant that I had to have the right base polish. I didn't want to go too light and have them get washed out, but I also didn't want to go too dark because I wanted this to be full spring, so I ended up splitting the difference and starting with one of my personal favorite purple polishes - Color Club's Pucci-licious, which is a super saturated lavender shade. I not only felt like this had the depth I was looking for, but it also works really well, I think, with the peach, pink, blue and yellow stamping polishes that I was using gor this mani.
I started by applying one generous coat of Pucci-licious to all of my nails as my base and let that dry down.
To create the actual nail art, I ended up going with blobs and squiggles for the bulk of it and added some finer details at the end for visual interest. I started with the blobs, which I applied at opposing corners of each nail in a combination of peach, pink and yellow. Next, I went in with two different squiggle images, applying both to each nail in either pink, pink, or yellow. I tried not to let any of the nails be exactly the same because I think it ends up being more interesting that way. At this point, I decided that the mani needed something else, so I decided to go in with some quite fine loops and dots images in black and white on each nail and I think it really brought everything together.
Once I was happy with my design, I sealed everything in with a nail art top coat and then followed with a matte top coat to bring down the shine. And voila!
