NAIL ART: Black & Yellow Summer Honeycomb Nails

by - May 15, 2023

I have to admit that I've had today's mani in mind for literally months now ever since I received the Whats Up Nails B075 Somwhere In Bee-Tween Stamping Plate*, but I got it in my head that it was going to have to wait for spring. Because this is definitely how my brain works. Anyway, I'm super excited to finally put together this mani and share it for this week's #CBBxManiMonday, so let's go!

Obviously I needed the perfect bee-style yellow for the base of this design, so I grabbed for Whats Up Nails Bear Trap*, which is clearly leaning into the honey vibe. I love love love this yellow polish - which is definitely a thing I don't say very often. It's a really warm yellow (in person it definitely leans warmer than I was able to capture in photos) and contains a really subtle gold shimmer that feels really perfect for this mani. Very honeybee vibes on this one.

I started by applying two slightly heavier coats of Bear Trap and let those dry down before I moved onto my stamping. I went with two heavier coats just for ease of coverage, but you could definitely go with three thinner coats with this one if that's how you polish.

For the stamping, I knew I wanted to layer for this mani. I started by applying the really simple honeycomb design on all of my nails using a gold stamping polish. This ends up being pretty subtle, really, but I do think it still works well and gives a cohesive vibe to the overall design. Next, I went in with my black stamping to apply two different stamping images. For my outer nails, I went with this really sort of graphic honeycomb design, shifting the placement so that each nail still managed to look different. For my middle two fingers, I used this sort of abstract design with graphic honeycombs as well as flowers and a tiny bee. I alternated the direction of placement and I think it really does help to hide the fact that it's the same image.

Once I was happy with my stamping I sealed everything in with a nail art top coat and then finished with a glossy top coat for shine and volume. And voila!

I'm sort of madly in love with this design and it really just screams summer to me. It's been pretty hot here for the last week and I also saw my first bee of the year yesterday, so it seemed like perfect timing.
