HALLOWEEN NAIL ART: Black & Orange Jack-O-Lantern Nails

by - October 25, 2023

THIS POST IS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PUEEN COSMETICS.

When I was preparing for this marathon of Halloween nails, I did a little bit of poking around looking at different polishes and combinations I could try and I saw this pair of gel polishes from Born Pretty that I immediately knew I wanted to pair with the Jack-O-Lantern image from the Pueen Halloween Party 01 Stamping Plate. It just seemed like the perfect fit... so that's what this mani is!

For the base, I started by applying the opaque orange créme polish as my base. It's a beautiful, creamy orange shade that on its own doesn't necessarily scream Halloween, but works beautifully paired with the cat eye gel on top to create this really golden orange shade. I did two layers of the orange créme polish, curing for 60 seconds between coats. Next, I went in with the cat eye gel polish and did two coats of that as well, using my magnetic along the edges of my nails to get that strong cat eye glow between coats. When I use cat eye gel, I tend to flash cure for about ten seconds after each nail and then do a full cure once they're all finished.

For the stamping, I wanted to keep it really, really simple. I used the same jack-o-lantern image and black stamping polish for all of my nails. I wanted to get a different look for each nail, which is perfect for this particular image because it is large enough to be full cover, but has finished edges. For the middle two fingers as well as my thumb, I applied the image full cover and just turned it on each nail to get a different look. On my pointer and ring fingers, I applied the image towards the base of the nail so that it only covers about ¾ of the nail.

Once I was happy with my stamping, I finished with a gel top coat for shine. And voila!

I really, really with that the majesty of cat eye gel polish could really come across in photos because it's just absolutely mesmerizing and is really what makes this mani sing in person. I will say, though, that the glow in photos is also pretty amazing. The sparkle of this cat eye polish is no joke and I love how it pairs with the black Jack-O-Lantern image!
