HALLOWEEN NAIL ART: Smoky Blue Dancing Skeleton Nails

by - October 12, 2023

While I do try to be good and not order every single stamping plate I see - even with as much nail art as I do, I already have plates in my collection that I've never used so I hardly need more - sometimes there are plates that I just can't resist picking up. Recently, as I was perusing the stamping plates avaiable from Aliexpress, I saw this Halloween plate from Mr. Fox and I just had to have it, very specifically because I wanted to create this mani or some version of it. There's just something so adorable about these dancing skeletons!

I went back and forth on what I wanted to do for the base of this design, but in the end I kind of wanted to harken to a sort of disco vibe with the glow of the lights and the twinkle of a disco ball, so I went with a combo of two polishes to create that. First, I applied two coats of Color Club's That's The Spirit, which is a deep blush shade with a really stunning iridescent gold flash through it. And then I went in with one coat of Sally Hansen's Moonlit Top Coat, which is a really densely packed flakie topper with the same sort of gold to fuchsia shift as the base. It almost gives a sort of spotlight vibe with the way it hits the light.

For the stamping, I kept it super simple despite the fact that my brain fully and completely wondered if it was too simple. I chose a skeleton for each nail based on the width of each nail - the narrowest on my pinkie and the widest on my middle, with the two similarly sized images going on my pointer and ring. I applied the images in white to both lean into the traditional skeleton vibe and also to get a really strong contrast with that base.

Once I was happy with the design, I sealed everything in with a nail art top coat and then followed with a matte top coat to bring down the shine and give a velvety appearance with that glow from the base. And voila!

I honestly can't get over how adorable these little skeletons turned out. They're just so damn cute to me! And I really do love the way that glow in the base really spotlights the image. It's simple, definitely, but I think that's what makes it impactful. And adorable.
