SWATCH & REVIEW: Whats Up Nails Too Cold For School Holiday 2023 Collection
I can not even tell you how excited I was when I found out that Whats Up Nails was going to be releasing a Holiday collection this year. I've really, really enjoyed their polishes from the past two collections, so I was really excited to try out this collection. One of my favorite things about the Whats Up Nails collections that I've tried in the past is the way they mix different finishes and yet somehow make everything work together and this collection is definitely no exception to that!
So without further ado, let's get to the swatches!
Whats Up Nails Too Cold For School Collection - Holiday 2023
SHADE: Moody Duty ~ Bright Blue Base with Blue To Purple Iridescent Shimmer
Moody Duty is a really stunning polish. The base is a really true primary blue shade that packs a ton of punch just on its own, but with that added shifty shimmer it has that really pretty glow as well. The formula of this one was an absolute dream to work with and applied really smoothly. I would say that short nails could easily get away with 2 coats on this one, but on my nail length I did need that third coat to get to full opacity. Stunning.

SHADE: Passion Is My Profession ~ Burgundy Jelly Base with Holographic Flakies
As soon as I saw Passion Is My Profession, I wanted it on my nails. The jelly base in this one definitely leans quite berry in shade, but once you build to opacity you get this rich deep burgundy. This one is a 2-3 coater, I would say, depending on your nail length and the level of opacity you're looking for. It does dry down with a bit of texture from those holo flakes, but I found that it smoothed out perfectly with just one coat of regular top coat - no need for a glitter smoother on this one.

SHADE: Sequin Seeker ~ Neutral Gold Shimmer with Pink to Gold Iridescent Flakies
I honestly wish that photos could even do justice to Sequin Seeker because in person this is just the most perfect shining gold. I love love love that this is a neutral gold and doesn't pull too golden, and then addition of those pink to gold flakes adds such a pretty visual interest. The formula on this one is beautiful with smooth application and good pigmentation. This is another 2-3 coater depending on nail length, but I think it could also be used as a topper to add some really dense gold shine. Stunning, stunning!

SHADE: Hero Below Zero ~ Light Blue Base with Clear and Light Pink Iridescent Shimmer
Hero Below Zero is a genuinely perfect winter blue, in my opinion. It's so cool toned and so twinkly from the two different shimmers through it. I would say that this one is probably the most sheer in this collection and though shorter nails without a strong visible nail line could probably get away with 2 coats, I would definitely recommend 3 coats on this one. Seriously, I can not wait to use this as a base for wintery nail art!

SHADE: Drippy Days ~ Light Gray Creme
Recently, I've been lamenting the lack of grey polishes on the market, so I was super excited to see Drippy Days included in this collection. This is a stunning créme formula with a creamy, smooth application and really, really good pigmentation. This is, in my opinion, the only true 2 coater in this collection, regardless of nail length or visible nail line. It's also just so stunning. Again, I can't wait to use this as a base for nail art and I'm already picturing what I plan on doing with it!

SHADE: Can't Unsee ~ Teal Base with Small Green Flash Reflective Glitter and Green to Blue Iridescent Shimmer
Finally, we have my personal favorite in this collection - Can't Unsee. In the bottle, I found that this looks a bit more hunter green, but one the nails you really get that teal. I have a tendency to hate working with polishes featuring flash reflective glitter, but this formula is really smooth and easy to work with. Again, I would say that if you want to get the full density of this shade, you're probably going to want to go with three coats and because it dries a bit textured (as all reflective glitter polishes do), you're definitely going to need a top coat. This one is stunning and you'll definitely be seeing this polish in my upcoming holiday nails marathon!
I can't say that I really considered what a Whats Up Nails holiday collection would look like, but now that I have it in hand, this one makes absolutely perfect sense. I really love that they went with a collection that feels both holiday traditional but also... not entirely. For me, this feels like a classic holiday collection that's packed full of shades that you don't already have in your collection - which is just perfect!
The Whats Up Nails Too Cold For School Holiday 2023 Collection* is officially launching today - November 28, 2023 - and is available from WhatsUpBeauty.com! And, of course, I highly recommend.
