REVIEW: Super Facialist by Una Brennan Vitamin C+ Brighten Skin RenewCleansing Oil

by - March 26, 2015

This past month or so has been all about finding the perfect cleanser for me. I've been straight up on a skin care mission for basically the last year and that mission doesn't seem to end. And let's be real... It probably won't, even when I find the perfect combination of things I love. The life of the beauty obsessed always seems to end with being drawn to the things that are new and shiny, doesn't it? Anyway, I first saw this on Caroline Hiron's blog - if you don't read that blog, I do not know what you are doing with your life, because that woman is EVERYTHING - and she said it was a good product with crappy packaging, but that the newer packaging had slightly improved. Anyway, I saw this at Winner's and, of course, had to pick it up and give it a try. I had no choice, right? Anyway, I've been trying it and I'm ready to tell you what I think.

Keep reading for my thoughts...

From Superfacialist.co.uk:
"The ultimate cleansing experience for fresher, more revived skin starts with this unique lightweight cleansing oil. Infused with Vitamin C and nourishing Olive, Grapeseed and Rosehip oils, this highly soluble oil transforms itself, upon contact with water, into a light milky texture. Boosted with Rosemary oil, Vitamin E and soothing Cucumber oil it gently dissolves face and eye make-up and removes daily impurities. Skin is left cleansed, refreshed and softer to the touch."

Caroline Hirons didn't lie... This packaging is a bit of a pain. I think any of us who have tried multiple different cleansing oils knows that the most convenient and user friendly packaging has a pump. A pump just makes everything easier and less messy. This, unfortunately, doesn't come with a pump. However, I don't find the cap to be too difficult to use. You can give a little squeeze and get pretty decent control over how much product ends up in your hands. While this is a thin oil, I find that it doesn't run nearly as much as the Ours 3-in-1 Cleansing Oil that I reviewed last month. Thank god! Overall, I'd say that the packaging is fine, not my preference by workable.

I've used this as my first step in my nightly cleansing routine to remove all of my makeup before I do a full cleanse as well as in the morning as my only cleanser. I actually find that I really like it in both applications. I am a big fan of doing a double cleanse at night, because I feel like it really gets my skin clean and ready for my serums and moisturizers, and I think this is a good cleansing oil for the first step because it does easily break down all of my makeup and prep my skin for a second cleanse. As a morning cleanser, I do find that it does a good job, but I do have to be very careful to make sure that I do a few passes with a warm washcloth to make sure that there isn't any residue left on my skin.

The one thing that I'm still not sure about is the smell. I was expecting this to have a bright, citrus smell that I would love to perk me up in the morning... but instead it has a sort of juvenille creamsicle scent with a lot of sweetness to it. Don't get me wrong, I don't find the scent offensive or anything, but I think I would prefer something a little fresher rather than sweet. I'm getting somewhat used to the scent and it doesn't really bother me, but I do think that I would like this product more if it had a more natural, fresh scent. One thing that I have noticed about all of the Super Facialist by Una Brennan products that I've gotten a nose full of is that they all have very sweet, young scents - which I suspect implies that this range is intended for younger skin, not a surprise at this price point.

Honestly, my overall feelings about this product are quite good. It doesn't make me wanna jump up and sing the song of my people, but it does a good job and I'm sure that I'll enjoy using this while it lasts. I'm not sure that I'd pick it up again, especially since there are so many other cleansing oils to try, but I wouldn't count it out.

How's that for a luke warm review? It's decent, guys. If you're looking for a cleansing oil that gets the job done and has a sweet, creamsicle scent... This might just be the one for you. I don't know where you can find this permanently in Canada, but I found mine at Winners so it might be worth a look.
