REVIEW: Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lip Color in Nude Flush

by - February 16, 2016

Spring 2016 has definitely been the season of new drugstore matte liquid lipstick formulas, and I feel like I've been eating them up! Of course, if you read this blog you'll already know that I'm a huge fan of liquid to matte lipsticks and have been going hard on the trend for the past year, so I was thrilled to see so many brands bringing affordable, accessible options to the table. So, how does this one stack up? I have some pros and I have some cons about this product, so keep reading to take a look!

ABOUT:
Drench your lips in Vivid Matte.
Bold, vivid color glides easily onto lips for a velvety matte finish. Formula is comfortable and creamy with a smooth feel upon application. With full color coverage, the result is a rich, intense lip look in a range of colors from Nude Flush to Electric Pink to Vivid Violet. Available in 10 vibrant, matte shades.

Let's start with the Pros: I LOVE the packaging of this product. I think the branding is really nice, the matte lid looks sleek and classy, and the square tube is reminiscent of a higher end product. I also really, really like the wand. I love a flat applicator for liquid lipstick, because I feel like it's much easier to control, and this one is a really good length and has just enough give to make application really easily. I'm actually surprised at how much I like the scent, because I don't actually tend to get on so well with the scent of a lot of Maybelline lip products, but this one reminds me of something that I can't place and I find it very pleasant. I also really like the shade, Nude Lust, which is a true pink nude and seems to really suit my light skintone.

Now for the Cons: The biggest con for me is by far the weirdest thing about this lip product, and that's the strange numbing effect that this seems to have on your lips. It's actually hard to explain, but it kind of reminds me of the way the gel that they put in your mouth at the dentist before they actually numb you for real feels. It's a little bit tingly, slightly swollen... numbness. That's really the only way to describe it. It's not uncomfortable, per say, but it is very, very weird and not entirely pleasant. The other con is one that I think a lot of people have been getting upset about, though it actually isn't a huge problem for me. This is not a liquid lipstick that sets. I would say that it has a creamy matte finish, because from very first application there isn't any shine on the lips, but it isn't like a lot of the higher end liquid to matte lipsticks that have been coming out where it sets to a powdery, budgeproof matte finish. This is more of a creamy matte finish and I think it would be quite a bit more comfortable for a lot of people... if not for the incredible weirdness of the numb feeling.

I really wanted to love this liquid lipstick, and I actually think that it's almost a really, really good drugstore option for someone who isn't looking for that budgeproof, powdery matte lip, but the weird numbness thing just throws me off completely. Have you tried these? Do you know what I mean about the lip numbing feel?

Thanks for reading!
