Sometimes there are products or tools that are just so different and make such interesting claims, that you really can't help but try them. That's how I felt when I was offered the opportunity to try out the Hair Slinky by La Vita Glam*. The coiled rubber hair ties promise that they won't leave creases in your hair, won't cause breakage, and won't slip. For me, those are pretty big claims and ones I was really hoping would be true. They also boast that these look great on your wrist, so you can take them along with you wherever you go. Now, I don't know that that's entirely true for my personal style, but I will say that I find these a lot more comfortable to wear on my wrist than I do a traditional hair elastic, because they are never too tight and don't cut off my circulation. Good, right?

As you can see, these come in two different sizes. The larger ones are definitely a little more heavy duty and I mostly used those to tie my hair into messy top knots, which is probably my favorite thing to do with second or third day hair. The smaller ones are the perfect size for braids or pigtails, which I've been doing more and more often this summer.

One cool thing about these that I was eager to test as soon as I could is that they boast that if they get stretched out, as they absolutely will when you wear them in your hair, all you have to do is put them in a little bit of hot water and they'll tighten up again. This is very much true. They didn't get quite as tight and firm as when they were brand new, but they definitely shrunk up nice and tight and ready to use again. One tip, once you take them out of the water, place them on a paper towel to try and completely cool down so that they will be as tight as possible.

Now for the product claims. I surprisingly found them all to be true. I didn't find that this left any dents in my hair and when I pulled them out, they came smoothly without bringing any of my hair with them - trust me, every time I use a traditional hair elastic that is not the case. I didn't find that the larger ones held a topknot quite as firmly as a traditional hair elastic, but it was infinitely more comfortable so I didn't really mind having to redo my knot every few hours. The smaller ones were perfect for pigtail braids or the side braid that I've been favoring lately. They held very securely and rolled out easily when I wanted to take the style out.

Overall, I'm really impressed with how these worked. I wasn't sure if they were going to just be a straight up gimmick or actually do what they said, but I actually think they did quite a good job. You can purchase the Hair Slinky by La Vita Glam* on their website.
