REVIEW: Rocky Mountain Soap Co. Skin Care

by - November 13, 2017

While I'm not personally someone who is concerned about my skin care being all natural, there are definitely some natural products that I personally love in my collection and I think it's important to highlight them here on the blog for people who are trying to keep their skin care routine natural. I also really, really like to support Canadian. Recently, I've been testing out a handful of products from Canadian natural skin care brand Rocky Mountain Soap Co. and I'm kind of over the moon excited to share them with you. Amongst these is a new holy grail that I'm already planning on heading out to repurchase in the next few days.

Never heard of Rocky Mountain Soap before? Or maybe you're like me and you thought that they just make soap? Nope!

"Nestled in the heart of the snow-capped Canadian Rockies, we draw our inspiration from the raw and natural beauty that surrounds us every day. It shapes everything we do. Handmade in small batches using only 100% natural, simple ingredients, we spend our days working with growers sourcing the highest quality natural products and developing new recipes."

Rocky Mountain Soap Avocado Facial Bar*
Avocado soap is rich in proteins and nutrients to soothe, nourish and moisturize the skin. This soap is suitable for all skin types but is ideal for combination skin. This bar can also be used on other parts of the body where breakouts occur.

I have to admit, I'm not personally the biggest fan of washing my face with a bar cleanser, but I did give this a solid try and I think it did a good job of cleaning my skin and leaving it feeling really fresh. I absolutely love the smell of this soap, which is definitely natural smelling and has a strong anise scent to it - one of my favorites. Because I've been testing this as winter has arrived here in Winnipeg, I did find that this probably isn't the best choice for my skin because I need a cleanser that's a little more hydrating, but I would definitely say that this could be a good option for someone with combination to oily skin.

Rocky Mountain Soap Lavender & Arnica Calming Toner*
Lavender and Arnica will soothe delicate and irritated skin. Enjoy a healthy dose of antioxidants and skin-repairing ingredients that will leave your skin feeling nourished and hydrated. Beneficial for sensitive skin.

Mmmm... I love this type of toner mist. I use this as a second toner to soothe my skin after washing it and using an AHA and it's absolutely beautiful. I was actually having some sensitivity and my skin felt a little bit tender recently and I sprayed this one and it instantly helped to calm my skin down and left me feeling refreshed rather than the vague discomfort I had been feeling before it. I've also used this throughout the day over my makeup because the smell of the lavender is really calming for my anxiety and I think it really helps to re-center me. I really like the spray pump on this, which gives a really fine mist over the skin so that you aren't sitting there soaked, waiting for your mist to dry.  Overall, I really, really like this product and would highly recommend it, particularly for sensitive skin. I have a feeling it's going to be a winter lifesaver for me.

Rocky Mountain Soap Pomegranate Day Cream*
A day cream for your face made to nourish, protect and combat the signs of aging. Anti-oxidant rich Pomegranate holds naturally hydrating ingredients that protect against dryness all day long. It really is superfood for your skin.

This is another product that I think my skin is going to love this winter. For my summer skin, I think this might be a little bit too hydrating for daytime use, but as the weather has been getting colder and my skin drier, I've been really drinking this up. I would say that the texture is sort of mid-weight, not thin but also not too rich either, and it sinks into the skin quite well but I can definitely tell I've applied it even after it soaks in. The scent of it is very, very subtle and you can tell it isn't a fragrance but just the light smell of the ingredients. I would recommend this for people with normal to dry skin, particularly if you're looking for something quite hydrating without being too heavy.

Rocky Mountain Soap Beech Tree Bud Eye Cream*
Known as the 'Tree of Everlasting Youth', Beech Tree Bud extract gives a firm resiliency and support to the skin while Coconut and Jojoba Oils provide long-lasting hydration. This formula also uses vitamin and anti-oxidant rich Ginseng and Green Tea to restore a look of youth and vitality and to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eye.

This has been another winner for me, I have to say. I'm admittedly a little bit devil-may-care about applying my eye cream, but I've been trying to be more proactive about it recently and I'm really seeing results as I use this. I find that it has good hydration without feeling heavy and I can easily use it in the morning without having it effect the application and wear time of my makeup, which is always important to me. As I've been using it, I've found that my undereyes are maintaining hydration very well and generally looking more healthy and less crepey. Really, my only complaint about this product is the jar that they chose to house it. While it does contain more product than a lot of eye creams, I find that the tall, narrow jar can make it a little bit difficult to get the right amount of product. I've remedied that by using the end of a makeup brush as a spatula, but I would definitely like to see this product in a wider, more shallow jar.

Rocky Mountain Soap Comapny Dry Skin Butter*
Dry skin sucks big time. This is your secret weapon and best defense against very dry skin. Coat, protect, moisturize. Problem solved.

And now for my new holy grail obsession. Here's a little bit of backstory. I have really, really terrible feet. It's genetic, both of my parents have pretty terrible feet, and I'm constantly on the hunt for the one product that's going to rescue them. I decided that since this is dry skin butter and the driest place on my body is my feet, I would use this as a foot balm. And, my friends, I literally saw a difference in the look of my feet within an hour and by the following day, it was like I had different feet. With consistent use, this has just been making my feet better and better. First off, the look of my heels is completely different. My right foot, which is traditionally the worst of my two feet, is healing itself and at a glance you can't even tell that it was deeply cracked and basically hideous until very, very recently. Overall, my feet feel smooth and look a hundred times better than they did. I know Rocky Mountain Soap has a specific Foot Butter, so I might try that, but I honestly don't know how anything could be better than this. If you get dry knees or elbows or have dry patches on your body, I literally will not recommend anything above this product at this point. It's amazing. I'm obsessed. And later this week I'm stocking up. Period.

I have to say that I'm overall a little bit surprised at just how much I like these products. The two that I think I personally will be repurchasing are the Dry Skin Butter (obviously) and the Calming Toner because those two are the ones that really stood out and impressed me most, but I would also definitely consider picking up the Eye Cream again if they were to change the packaging because it is a really good product. If you're in the market for some natural skin care, I would highly recommend checking out Rocky Mountain Soap - I know I will definitely be looking a little deeper into the brand and trying out some more things.
