REVIEW: OGX Biotin & Collagen Dry Shampoo

by - May 01, 2018

Admittedly, dry shampoo isn't as much a part of my hair care routine now as it used to be, but I definitely still reach for it probably a couple of times a week and I'm always on the lookout for the perfect dry shampoo for my needs. Recently, I saw a whole bunch of new OGX Dry Shampoos on the shelves - not really sure at all how long they've been out - but I decided to pick up the OGX Refresh & Full+ Biotin & Collagen Dry Shampoo because, honestly, I liked the smell and I find that products containing biotin tend to work really well for me.

When I've reviewed dry shampoos in the past, I've highlighted what I personally need from the performance of a dry shampoo. First and foremost, it has to help control my oils. I don't have an oily hair type, so I don't need something super, super strong, but when I reach for dry shampoo I want my hair to look fresh and matte once I brush it out. I also want it to smell good, since I'm pretty consistently aware of the smell of my hair, and I want it to have minimal to no whitecast. Pretty basic needs, I think.

When I used dry shampoo, I tend to section my hair at the crown into sort of triangles and apply the product at the root, and this dry shampoo has a really good density of spray for getting in there but not overwhelming my hair. Particularly with volumizing dry shampoos, this is important to me. I'd say that the whitecast is definitely minimal on this - but I would definitely recommend giving it a good shake before using it, spraying a good 8-10 inches from your head, and not applying too much to any one spot. If I apply it in that way, I find that a quick workthrough with my fingers will work any whitecast that's left behind.

I'd say that for my hair type, which is normal, fairly fine, and with a dryish scalp, this is kind of a perfect formula for my needs. I don't know how well it would work for someone with really oily hair, but for my normal hair it's just the right amount to balance the hair without overwhelming it. It also adds the right amount of volume and texture to my hair without making it feel heavy, sticky, or dirty like some other volumizing formulas have for me in the past.

I have to say, I'm overall really happy with how this dry shampoo has performed for my needs. I can definitely see how someone who has more oil to control might not find this to be quite strong enough, but I've actually applied this on pretty greasy hair and it's done a good job of freshening everything up. I also really like to apply this if I'm going to be pulling my hair up because I find that the texture it adds to the hair is really great for both making it look better and making it hold without the need for hairspray.

In closing, I'm really impressed with this formula and looking forward to trying out some of the other dry shampoos that OGX has in their stable.

The OGX Refresh & Full + Biotin & Collagen Dry Shampoo is widely available now, so if it sounds like it might meet your needs I'd definitely recommend giving it a try!
