NAIL ART: Whats Up Nails Canadian Flag Nail Stencils

by - June 13, 2018

I have to say, I've definitely been trying more and more to dip my toes into trying out vinyl nail stencils recently since they're such a versatile way to create nail art. With Canada Day coming up, I definitely wanted to put together some great nail art to celebrate and I was super excited to get the chance to try out the Whats Up Nails Canadian Flag Nail Stencils* - and to share the wealth with some of my readers!

Keep reading for more!

The Whats Up Nails Canadian Flag Nail Stencils* contain 20 maple leaf stencils in two different sizes. Because you can also use the center part of the stencil as either a decal or a negative space stencil, these are definitely versatile and one package will give you a lot of mani options. I also like that when I look at these I clearly see Canada Day nail art, but I also feel like they could work really well with some warm polishes for fall nail art.

I found these incredibly easy to use, personally, and I'm still not the most proficient when it comes to using nail vinyls. They apply really easily and the edges adhere to the nails smoothly and hold well in place while you apply polish. They also remove really easily and I didn't have any issues with them tearing or lifting my base polish when I removed them. Overall, I really think that these are a phenomenal option both for the experienced nail artist as well as the nail art novice.

For this mani - pretty impactful, super easy, and very, very Canadian - I started with two coats of Crayola + Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Wild Strawberry on my first and pinkie fingers and topped them with Seche Vive Quick Dry Top Coat. For my two accent nails, I applied first one coat of Sinful Colors Snow Me White (So opaque!) and then topped it with a coat of Essie Gel Couture in Picture Perfect for a little bit of subtle shimmer. I applied a coat of Seche Vive to both nails and let it dry completely. Because I was a little bit pressed for time, I actually went the decal route with my Whats Up Nails Canadian Flag Nail Stencils and use the larger maple leaf on my middle finger and the smaller maple leaf on my ring finger. I smoothed the decals out by pressing a makeup sponge to the top of the nail so that everything was well adhered to the nail. Finally, I finished with two more coats of Seche Vive to get a really smooth, high shine finish.

Honestly, guys, I have the sneaking suspicion that in the near future I'm definitely going to be getting more and more into nail vinyls. I think my favorite thing about them is that I'm not limited by polish formula the way that I am with stamping and they leave a lot of room for creativity!

Don't forget to head over to Nail Polish Canada to be one of the 10 people to get their hands on a free set of vinyls! Good luck!

Thanks for reading!
