MANI MONDAY: Green...Ish Abstract Nail Art

by - March 30, 2020

Hey guys! I hope everyone is doing well tucked in at home. I've personally been practicing as much social distancing as I can - and whipping up personal masks on my sewing machine for myself and the people close to me so that we can feel a little bit better going out when we need to. Also, I've been feeling a little bit overwhelmed and uninspired - which is the reason why the blog posts have been a little spotty. However, I had a spike of inspiration this weekend for what I wanted to do for this week's #CBBxManiMonday, our last week of the Blue & Green theme, though I'm calling this one "Green...ish" because all of the shades sort of straddle some lines.

So to check out this week's mani, keep reading!

I really, really wanted to use the essie expressie Quick Dry Nail Color in Taxi Hopping as my base for this look because... it's just kind of a rad shade. I've seen it called a mustard and essie themselves call it an "acidic yellow", but to me it's... straight up pea soup. Depending on the light, it can pull more yellow or more green, but I personally feel it's definitely more green. Anyway, for this look, I applied two coats of Taxi Hopping as my base and then sort of ruminated on what I wanted to pair it with for a while.

Ultimately, I decided I really wanted to go with sort of teal shades because I love that pairing myself, so I grabbed Sinful Colors Blue Cruisin', a deep, rich teal, and OPI's Verde Nice To Meet You*, a gorgeous muted turquoise, as well as black and white stamping polishes from Born Pretty Store to do my design. I did dry brush stamping to apply the design, layering strokes of the colours thoughtfully over the nail until I got the look I wanted. I came directionally from both the base and the tip of the nail and left a sort of diagonal through the middle of the base colour. I then added rows of little black dots to each nail for some more dimension.

To finish, I floated a coat of Seche Vive Quick Dry Top Coat over each nail and voila!

It's also just quick and easy way to get some really impactful nail art using just about any color combination you like. Just make sure you have some good contrast in your mani, because it really does help everything pop.
