REVIEW: AVON x THEFACESHOP Dr Belmeur Cica Products

by - March 18, 2020

Dr. Belmeur is one of those skin care brands that has been on my radar for quite a while now, one I've definitely been interested in trying out, but just hadn't gotten around to yet. So, obviously, I was super excited when I found out that some of their products are included in the AVON x THEFACESHOP collaboration. I've been trying out a couple of the products for the past several weeks now and I'm a little bit in love, so I'm super excited to share them with you guys!

If you're familiar with Korean skin care, you're no doubt familiar with Cica products. From creams and balms to serums, Cica products have been gaining a lot of steam over recent years with promises of impressive results. The ingredient they're referring to when they use Cica in the name is Centella Asiatica, which is an herb long-used medicinally that has shown great promise for it's soothing and antioxidant properties. While often the kind of hype that surrounds Cica products can be chalked up to hype, there really is solid science to support a lot of the claims around centella asiatica. Not only does it have soothing, hydrating and antioxidant benefits, it's also a really great source of amino acids. Overall, I'm not one to ever call any ingredient a miracle, but I do think this is a solid ingredient and one that I've really been enjoying having in my skin care routine.

AVONxTHEFACESHOP Dr. Belmeur Cica Peptite Ampoule*
$53CAD | The energy ampoule with ingredients extracted from Centella asiatica and peptide complex energizes tired skin, creates a smoother surface, and helps strengthen the skin barrier for firmer skin.

Honestly, packaging is rarely something that impresses me anymore, but I have to talk about the packaging of this product. It's a dropper style packaging, but rather than the little rubber nipple to draw the product into the dropper, this bottle has a lid that depresses when you press it closed and then pulls product into the dropper when you open it. You then press down on the top to dispense the product. And honestly, I can't even tell you how much I love that. Seriously, I could just open and close this bottle non-stop for an hour and be incredibly satisfied. Because I am a nerd? Probably.

Anyway, the texture of this product is quite thin, watery almost but a little bit more viscous, and it spreads really easily over the skin but starts to feel a little bit more substantial as you work it into the skin. It has a slightly herbal scent to it that doesn't really excited me, but isn't unpleasant either, and it fades quickly once you apply it to the skin. This does contain essential oils, so if you have very sensitive skin or have fragrance sensitivity you might want to skip this one, but I personally haven't had any irritation from it at all.

Immediately upon putting this on my skin, I feel a boost of hydration that feels really, really good. There's an instant healthy glow to the skin that remains even after the product has sunk in, and I think it adds a nice bounciness to the skin. Because it's really lightweight and quick absorbing, I feel like this is a great morning serum when you don't want that feeling of heavy product on your skin all day.

With continued use, I really feel like this has both contributed to more sustained hydration in the skin, keeping my skin looking youthful and hydrated even if I miss a skin care evening when I do my most intensely nourishing products (it's been a rough few months, it happens.) I honestly can't speak to any visible results using this product, but I do really think that the feel and behavior of my skin has been really great when I use this product. Honestly, whenever I use products with peptides, I just feel like I have more consistently good skin days and I think this one is holding up well on that front.

AVONxTHEFACESHOP Dr. Belmeur Advanced Cica Hydro Cream*
$55 CADThis hypoallergenic, cooling and calming moisturizing cream soothes and protects skin while strengthening its natural barrier. Its fresh, lightweight formula is safe for all skin types, including sensitive skin.

I have to admit that I had sort of written off moisturizers, especially creams, from Korean skin care brands as not being right for my skin for quite a while, but as I try more options like this one I'm really finding that I either just had bad luck in the past or the market is expanding to include more products that really work for my skin type and needs. Initially, I thought that this was going to be a traditional lotion texture, but I'd ultimately say it's more of a gel cream that melts into the skin immediately. In my notes about this product I wrote down, "Scent... Lavender? Light floral type scent." I think it's lavender, but I can't really say definitely.

Like I said, this is a really lighweight gel cream type of formula, but it packs a pretty strong punch of hydration. It sinks into the skin quite quickly, so you really aren't left with that heavy or sticky feeling on the skin. The first thing that I noticed when I started using this is that it immediately gives you a kind of healthy glow to the skin, a sort of subtle luminosity that just looks really beautiful. Beyond that, though, I do think that this really adds a lasting, sustained hydration and bounce to the skin that I personally really love. I've actually been using this as my daytime moisturizer and it works beautifully under makeup and keeps my skin feeling and looking fresh all day.

I have to say, I really am so glad that I finally got to try out the Dr. Belmeur products and I'm definitely going to continue using them. One thing that I'm really learning recently is that there's a really wide range of types of products from Korean skin care brands and the technology and formulas that they're releasing have evolved a lot even from 5 years ago when I first really got into KBeauty.

As I said, I received these from Avon as part of their AVONxTHEFACESHOP Collaboration, which is a great pairing to really bring Korean beauty to a wider audience. If you're interesting in picking them up, they're available from your local Avon rep as well as from Avon.ca and Avon.com!

Thanks for reading!
