NAIL ART: Gold Foil Ballet Slipper Nails

by - August 07, 2020

I'm really finding that lately I'm cultivating a bit of a pattern when it comes to what I want to put on my nails. Summer has been so much about bold colour and bright, even cute designs that I find myself a little bit fatigued and just want something soft on my nails after a couple of those types of mani's. For this one, I sat down and for some reason was drawn to a polish that I haven't really given much love - OPI's A Hush Of Blush* from this past winter's Hello Kitty Collection. It's one of those sleeper hit shades, a super soft blush pink with a really fine, subtle shimmer, and it's just... so pretty!

Sometimes I have no inspiration when I sit down to do my nails, so I just throw on a base polish and see if something strikes. That is definitely what happened with this mani. I'm not really sure what inspired me to reach for A Hush Of Blush, but as soon as I got it on my nails, I not only fell in love with how it looked but I was instantly inspired. I applied two coats for the opacity that I was looking for and then followed with a coat of Essie's As Gold As It Gets, which is a super fine gold flakie top coat that I don't believe is available anymore. The combination brought down the pink tone of the base and gave it an even more delicate look.

Next, while the flakie top coat was still tacky, I went in and applied little bits of gold foil to each of my nails. It's important that you do this quickly, as the foil won't stick so well once the tackiness of the base is gone, so I did each nail individually. I was also mindful to keep each nail different as far as placement and shape of the foil to give it a really random look because I think it gives a more effortlessly pulled together look.

I finished with a generous coat of Seche Vive Top Coat and voila!

I really do think this is a fantastic mani option for the nail art beginner as well as someone who wants to add a little bit of nail art to their mani but keep it pretty subtle. Also, because I used mainstream polish and craft flakes for this look, I'd say it's pretty easy to recreate if you're looking to.
