NAIL ART: Modern Abstract Valentine's Day Nails

by - February 13, 2021

Clearly, I couldn't let a little mini marathon of Valentine's Day nail art pass without throwing in an abstract mani with some cute stamping... I mean, I feel a little bit like this style of mani is becoming a signature for me. The thing that always makes me go back to this type of mani is that it's entirely versatile - I can really make it work for any season, theme, or vibe to be exactly what I want it to be, and so it makes total sense that I was able to make... basically the exact same mani work for Christmas as for Valentine's Day.

Anyway, keep reading for more!

Choosing the polishes for this mani was... actually pretty easy. For the middle two nails, I went with the milky white with subtle shimmer that I pretty much always use, then I paired it with one of my favorite light, neutral pinks from my collection and a rich berry pink that's sort of a new obsession - all products used are fully listed down below. To start, I painted two coats of each polish to their designated nails and then moved onto the nail art.

When it comes to the abstract/drybrushing design of this mani, I kept it really simple. I started with the lighter pink, removing most of the polish from the brush and doing a few dragging strokes from the edge of my nail inward until I had the intensity that I wanted. I followed by doing the same thing with the richer berry shade, being mindful not to overpower the whole design. Finally, I used a fine nail art brush to grab a little bit of rose gold metallic polish and apply a few small strokes of that as well.

Next, I went in with the grounding black elements. First, I did a few little black dots at two corners of each those nails to add a little bit of graphic detail. Next, I went in with my stamping and applied a pair of lips to my middle nail as a sort of hand-drawn looking heart with the word love scribbled through the center to my ring finger. I chose these two images because they were similar in size and vibe without being too on the nose.

Once I was happy with the design, I sealed it in with a water based top coat and then finished all of my nails with a generous coat of quick dry glossy top coat. And voila!

Honestly, I really do feel like there's a good chance that this mani or some version of it will pop up every couple of months or so all year long as I look for ways to use it in holiday themed nail art... and I feel good about that. I really love this style of nail art.
