NAIL ART: Art Deco Peacock Vibes Gradient Nails

by - March 06, 2021

I feel like a good measure of a successful mani is being left with the feeling that I have to do more of whatever I did for that mani. That's how I feel about this one - which is sort of surprising since I just sort of winged it. The stamping plate I used was still out on my desk from my last mani, the stamping polishes were 3 of 5 that are new to my collection, and I just kind of took the Ombré Stamping prompt from the Whats Up Nails March Nail Art Challenge and ran with it - and I love how this turned out. I'm calling it Art Deco Peacock Vibes because that's the vibe I get from it, definitely wasn't planned or anything like that. All of this to say... sometimes not having a plan yields really fun results.

Admittedly, I don't stamp with colour very often but this prompt seemed like the perfect opportunity to grab for a few of these more bold stamping polishes that I've just added to my collection. Initially, I thought that I would end up going for a softer, lighter base to get some serious pop from the colours but as I was digging around in my polish drawers trying to decide which polish to use as my base, I caught sight of Picture Polish's Winter and decided to give it a go and really test out the punch of these stamping polishes.

The cool thing about ombre stamping is creating that really smooth blend (which I will admit I had varying success with for this mani) is getting that really good blend where you build out more of a spectrum than you started with. For this mani, the three stamping polishes I used were a bright orchid pink, a bright neon blue, and a rich bright olive and I feel like in that blend I ended up with a really pretty purple as well. The trick is to, using light pressure, scrape the polishes in quick succession until you get the blend that you're looking for and then get it picked up and transferred fairly quickly.

Once I was happy with the stamping and crisped up the edges with a clean up brush dipped in acetone, I sealed in the stamping with a water based top coat and finished with a glossy quick dry top coat. And voila!

Like I said, I really love how this turned out and I'm so glad that I tried some things that I wouldn't normally have tried for this mani - it's making me really glad that I decided to try and fulfil all of the prompts for the Whats Up Nails March Nail Art Challenge! Keep an eye out for more mani's based on these prompts over the month of March!
