NAIL ART: Bold 60s Vintage Inspired Flakie Nails
If there's one indie brand that has been giving me grabby hands for year but took forever to get my hands on, it's Painted Polish... and now I'm obsessed. I've wanted to try their polishes for so long, but I have a mental block for shipping things to Canada (it's a whole thing in my brain, I don't try to explain it) so it wasn't until this year when I started purchasing from Polish Pickup that I finally started getting my hands on their polishes, but now I'm fairly certain I'll be buying from them every month. Because of... obviously. Obsessed.
Anyway, keep reading for more!
Jammin' In Jellies was Painted Polish's offering for PPU's 90s theme, inspired by the jelly sandals that I remember so very well from my childhood, and it... is incredible. It's described as a hot pink jelly base with pink-orange-yellow color shifting flakes and it just absolutely screams the inspiration. In some light, the flakes can really bring forward a warmth that is super, super classic summer, but the cool tones of that hot pink base can also make it feel almost orchid in some lights. It's stunning and it applies like an absolute dream.
For this mani, I applied two coats, which does not give me full opacity but does really camouflage my nail line and gives a really dense but still squishy and see through sort of pond effect. Seriously... this polish has me fully on board for literally any polish PP decides to do in this formula.
When it comes to bases like this one, I always want to add nail art but I want to add something that's going to pop the base and make it the star. For this mani, I'd been eyeing up this image that makes me personally think of a sort of modernized 60s vibe, and I felt like it would make a great pairing with this base. And, of course, I had to go with black because I feel like that contrast really does add the most intensity to the base possible. As usual, I alternated the direction that I placed the image to break up the design and give it more visual interest.
Once I was happy with my stamping, I sealed everything in with a water based top coat and then finished with a generous layer of glossy top coat and voila!

I. Mean. Honestly, it's one of the more simple designs that I've done, but the combination of this punchy base with the high contrast, graphic stamping really does make this feel like one of the most impactful mani's I've done recently. I'm... kind of obsessed with it, if I'm being honest. Can't get enough and it has me giving pretty major grabby hands to more Painted Polish. I mean. How could it not?
Anyway, thanks for reading!
