NAIL ART: Neon Gradient "Wild Spirit" Nails - Uberchic Boho Chic
I tend to rewatch things while I do my nails. Oftentimes it's those comfort TV shows that I've seen over and over, but other times it's old movies. Today's mani, I have to say, has a little bit of inspiration from the movie that I was watching while I was going it - although it probably isn't at all obvious. I LOVE the movie Under The Tuscan Sun. I've loved it ever since it came out and it's one of those ones that I turn on every once in a while just to brighten me up. The inspiration for this mani is certainly more in the carefree vibe of it than anything else - it certainly doesn't evoke the color scheme that I would have chosen if the inspiration had been a little more intention. That said, I had the idea for this gradient and I got it on my nails before I had any idea what I was going to do with the actual design and then the movie made me think of the Uberchic Beauty Boho Chic Stamping Plate and this is what happened.

I have to say, this summer there has definitely been a bit of an obsession on my part with this pink, purple, blue color scheme and I've been really drawn to creating mani's with them. For this mani, I started with a single coat of a pastel purple on my middle two fingers along with two coats each of a neon blue on my first finger (and thumb, not pictured) and a neon pink on my pinkie. For the gradient, I wanted to use those middle two fingers as a bridge, so I applied and pink to purple gradient on my ring finger and a purple to blue gradient on my middle finger.
I decided that I wanted to add some texture to the overall vibe, so I grabbed for my Holo Taco Solar Unicorn Skin because I felt like the warmth of those flakes would add good contrast over the cooler colors I used in my gradient. For the most part it worked beautifully, but for some reason it ended up making the pink on my pinkie finger look much more coral than I intended (even though the same pink somehow stayed pink on my ring finger - I dunno.) Still, I'm not mad at it and I think it works overall.
For the stamping, I started with applying this sort of line drawing image in black. For my middle two fingers, I applied the full image over my nail, alternating the direction of my placement for a little bit of interest. For my first and pinkie fingers, I decided instead to just apply one of the line drawings from the image. For my first finger, a curly arrow. For my pinkie, a spotted leaf. Simple. Next, I went in to add even more interest to my middle two fingers, using a white stamping polish to apply a scattered stars image to my middle finger and the text "Wild Spirit" to my ring finger.
Once I was happy with my stamping, I went in with a generous float of quick dry glossy top coat. I was going to leave this mani glossy, but the more I looked at it the more I felt like it would be better with a matte top coat so after a few hours I added a layer of matte top coat and voila - exactly what I wanted it to be!

I'm really in love with how fun this mani turned out and how the flakie top coat really popped over the neon polishes - though I will admit, I'm getting to the point where I might be in need of a bit of a palette cleanser after all of this brightness - so keep an eye out for some softer mani's to come.
