NAIL ART: Stay Wild Foxy Wilderness Nails

by - August 27, 2021

When I conceived of the idea of doing a week of wildnerness themed nails, I knew that I would be reaching for some Uberchic Beauty stamping plates from my collection that I don't reach for enough. I have both of the Uberchic Woodland Chic stamping plates and they're so, so good but I just don't remotely reach for them enough and now seemed like the time. You can check out the Muted Minimalist Mountain Smoosh Mani from the other day, which features the original Woodland Chic plate, if you haven't already. Initially, I had a racoon mani in mind and it really would have been completely different from this one, but when I sat down and started looking at the plates, my whole plan changed, I grabbed for another Uberchic plate, and I went to town... as you do.

When I was conceiving of the whole color story for this mani, I knew that I wanted to stick with sort of fox-like colors. I had the perfect stamping polishes for the design that I had in mind, but I needed base polishes so I dug into my OPI drawer. What I came out with was Do You Take Lei Away?, a pale beige nude, for my middle two nails and My Italian Is A Little Rusty, which is a rusty orange brown from the last fall's Milan collection for the rest of my nails.

It was at this point that the direction of this mani shifted. I decided that I wanted to have some graphic, sort of textile like full coverage designs on all of my nails and I knew that the Uberchic Boho Chic plate had the perfect options for that. For the orange nails, I went with a layered design that I've used before that features X's, diamonds and arrows, and I stamped them in black and white. For the beige nails, which I planned all along to build a more intricate design on, I went with a more subtle design in white.

Admittedly, layered stamping is not really my forte - especially when I'm trying to film it, if we're being honest, but it really is such a time saver over doing reverse stamping and the plates I was using for this design had some great layered designs so I went with it. I started with the fox image, which was really the basis for this whole mani, and I actually found the application really smooth and easy with this one. Using my Whats Up Nails Magnified Clear Stamper, I was really able to get good visualization. Next, I went in with the feathers and I decided to keep them orange as well just for continuity. Finally, I added the "Stay Wild" text, because it both suits the design and also... as a reminder to myself whenever I see an adorable fox and want to take said adorable fox home and snuggle it that it should definitely stay wild. Know what I mean? lol

Anyway, once I was happy with my stamping, I sealed it all in with a water based top coat and then finished with a matte top coat to take down the shine and voila!

After doing this mani, I can really see why so many people really like layered stamping plates, because I think I got the hang of it pretty well and it made the whole thing so, so much easier. Am I about to go down a rabbit hole? We'll see! But yeah, I love how this turned out and I think you can probably tell that my mind and body are 100% ready for fall at this point - so keep an eye out for those coming soon!
