NAIL ART: Green St. Patrick's Day Shamrock Nails

by - March 14, 2022

I'm deviating a little bit away from my plan to find inspiration in old favorite stamping images for today's #CBBxManiMonday because I had a bit of a lightbulb moment for some St. Patrick's Day themed nails using a couple of different stamping images from Whats Up Nails that I hadn't actually used before. I knew I wanted to do some St Patrick's Day nails this year - I don't think I actually did any last year - but I wasn't sure entirely what I was going to do until I considered pairing two different full coverage stamping images on the same nail like I did for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and then it all came together pretty quickly in my head.

Choosing a base for this mani was actually more of a struggle than I initially thought it would be. I was torn between going for a dark base with light stamping or a light base with dark stamping and ultimately I decided on the latter when I remembered that alllllll the way back last summer I had picked up Dreamland Lacquer's The King & The Queen from PPU Rewind and it was still sitting in my untrieds. The crelly base of this polish is actually a really pale blue, though I would say that it does definitely lean a teensy bit green on its own, and then it's packed with gold metallic and iridescent flakies that really help to pull it a little bit more towards a green in a way that makes it sort of... ambiguous? I don't know what the right word is, but the tone of this along with all of those gold flakes really made this feel like a perfect base for the occasion.

For the stamping, I knew I was going to use two very complimentary designs from two different Whats Up Nails Stamping Plates. Essentially, there is a classic full coverage image with scattered four leaf clovers and then a very similar negative space version that ends up being basically the opposite. Rather than using both images on all of my nails, I sort of wanted to have the design move across my hand with only two nails containing both images. I decided to start with the negative space image on my pinkie and go from there. For my ring finger, I applied the negative space image on the pinkie side half of my finger at an angle and then the regular image on the other half, being sure to overlap them just slightly where they met so that there wouldn't be any weird gapping. I continued across my hand this way with the regular image on my whole middle finger, the pair on my pointer finger, and then again the negative space image on my thumb.

Once I was happy with my stamping, I sealed it in with a smudge free top coat and then followed with a generous layer of quick dry glossy top coat. And voila!

I have to say, this really did come together exactly the way that I pictured it, but I actually feel like the final product is a little bit more subtle than I expected it to be - but I think in a way I like? And, if you're a reader of the blog, you know that I love a theme, so keep an eye out for one more St Patrick's Day themed mani later this week!
