CHRISTMAS NAIL ART: Sparkly Red & Green Christmas Ornament Nails

by - December 24, 2022

MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE! For my last holiday themed nail art design, I decided to go all in with a festive Christmas-y color palette and some really pretty ornament stamping with a bit of sparkle. I'm so thrilled with how this marathon of holiday and winter themed nail art has gone and I'm really happy to end it here with this mani. For those of you who have been here with me every step of the way, thank you so much and I hope you have or have had a wonderful holiday season, whatever you celebrate or don't.

Without further ado, let's get to these nails!

As I said, the color palette for this design was just full on Christmasy. I started with a base of my all time favorite green polish - Dimension Nails' Amazonian Manatee, which is this gorgeous rich green créme perfect for the holidays. I also knew I wanted to use white stamping polish, so I grabbed a shimmery red and a shimmery green from Kokie Cosmetics that I knew would both work perfectly with that base polish and also bring enough twinkle to really shine.

I started by applying one coat of Amazonian Manatee to all of my nails - yes, it only takes one coat, this polish is INCREDIBLE.

For this mani, I decided that I wanted to apply a large ornament image to each nail, so I used several stampers and picked up my four stamping images. (For my thumb, I re-used the image that I applied to my pinkie nail.) Using a combination of a dual ended dotting tool and a 4mm nail art brush, I filled in my images with my red and green sparkly polishes and let those dry. For this mani, I actually did my filling before applying by base polish, so I then just transferred the decals to my nails while my base polish was still a little bit tacky. Since there were gaps at the edges of each nail once the decals were applied, I actually took a cue from a full cover image featuring scaled down versions of the same ornament and used a portion of that image that featured a little swirl, some dots, and a little botanical sprig to fill in those bare spots on the nail.

Once I was happy with my stamping, I sealed everything in with a nail art top coat and then finished with a generous layer of glossy top coat for shine and volume. And voila!

I have to admit, as I finish writing this post I'm feeling a surprising amount of emotion surrounding this. This year has been really, really hard in my personal life if I'm being honest and I'm more than happy to see it over, holding onto hope that 2023 will bring some relief from the stress and struggle of not only the past year but the past 3. I love Christmas though and I am unashamed to buy into the spirit and magic of it and I hope that this season, regardless of what you celebrate at this time of year or if you even celebrate at all, brings you joy and comfort and love in your life.
