NAIL ART: Rich Evergreen Minimalist Swoop Gel Nails

by - March 24, 2023

Hey all! I love love love dark green nail polish. In fact, I would even go so far as to say that if I had to pick a favorite type of polish, it would be a dark green. Recently, Born Pretty was kind enough to send me some products to try out and feature here on the blog and one of them was this absolutely stunning rich evergreen shade and basically as soon as I had it in hand I just needed to get it onto my nails. Admittedly, I was in a bit of a hurry when I put this together, but it's actually a pretty easy design to throw together and because it's gel polish you can really just cure it and go.

So let's get into it!

Because I knew that I wanted to include some negative space in this design, I decided to start with a sheer milky white base to just camouflage my natural nail a bit, blurring and evening out any imperections and stains or discoloration. I used the Born Pretty Rubber Base Coat in RBG01**, which is a really gorgeous sheer white that I am immediately obsessed with and suspect I will be reaching for a lot in coming weeks. I just did one coat and I think it worked perfectly to create a really nice canvas for the nail art.

For the nail art, I really just wanted to do a simple sort of color blocked swoop sort of design. To do this, I used a medium length nail art liner brush and started by applying a single swoopy line on the nail and then filling it in. You really don't have to be all that fussy about the line, but I would recommend that you be mindful about how large your color block is going to be and try to think about how that will play with the blocks on the rest of the nails. I like to alternate which side of the nail my color block is on, personally. Next, I went in with a sort of very pale minty green shade and applied a second line of color directly next to the dark green. And finally, I decided on sort of a whim to add a line of small dots to the negative space on each of the nails with the design using the green polish again, just to add a little bit more visual interest.

For my middle finger and thumb, I applied two coats of the dark green shade to the entire nail. Once I was happy with the design, I went in with a matte gel top coat on all of my nails to bring down the shine and voila!

Initially, I wasn't actually quite sure how much I loved this mani, but I actually fell sort of in love with it the longer it's been on my nails. I just love how it's quite impactful while still being really simple, and sort of chic while also being kind of playful. I don't know.. Just me?

Thanks for reading!
