Hey all! I love love love dark green nail polish. In fact, I would even go so far as to say that if I had to pick a favorite type of polish, it would be a dark green. Recently, Born Pretty was kind enough to send me some products to try out and feature here on the blog and one of them was this absolutely stunning rich evergreen shade and basically as soon as I had it in hand I just needed to get it onto my nails. Admittedly, I was in a bit of a hurry when I put this together, but it's actually a pretty easy design to throw together and because it's gel polish you can really just cure it and go.

So let's get into it!

THIS POST IS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PUEEN COSMETICS.

I have come to terms with the fact that I am simply not a minimalism kind of girl, as my version of minimalism seems to just be excluding the kitchen sink but tossing everything else in there. That being said, I recently saw some really simple nail art designs from professional nail techs that were really simple and featured nail powders and I really wanted to do my own version of that type of design. Lucky for me, Pueen sent over their Holographic Nail Art Kit* and it seemed like the perfect time to try out a design that my by standards is very, very minimal but also just... so cool.

Earlier this week, I received my order of a handful more of the Born Pretty Sea Blue Cat Magnetic Gel Polishes and it seemed like an absolute sin to not pull out the pink one and use it as a base for a Valentine's Day nail art design. I am absolutely in love with these polishes and every single time I wear one (which has, admittedly, been constantly on my mysterious other hand ever since I first tried them) you can often find me just wiggling my fingers around under different types of light to see how they pop. They're just so pretty and by now I've collection a bit of a rainbow of them so they'll probably pop up here on the blog a fair bit in the coming months.

Well, I can officially say that I'm down a gel polish rabbit hole at the moment and I'm having a lot of fun playing around with techniques and designs that I never really had a chance to play with because I've always used traditional polish. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm still a huge fan of traditional polish, but there's definitely a brand new spark of creativity that has come with being able to try out different things using gel polish. For today's mani, I'm dipping into some gel liner polishes that I picked up recently and I'm super, super in love with how this one turned out.

I will be the first to admit to you that my skills when it comes to gel polish are a little bit newbieish and because I'm a perfectionist who really, really doesn't like to be bad at things that can have the outcome of me avoiding it entirely. That said, I'm really kind of in love with some of the things you can do with gel polish that you just can't with traditional polish and I'm hoping to really work on my skills in the medium this year and play more with some of those techniques. For today's mani, here's one of those techniques that I just sort of decided to give a go... and then promptly fell absolutely madly in love with.

Recently I was gifted some really, really lovely polishes from Unt and I was so eager to use them, but they didn't really fit in with the Halloween vibes so I've been holding off on using them until now. Because these colors are all so soft and desaturated, I knew that I wanted to do something sort of delicate with them and maintain that muted look overall. Of course, because I'm me, that meant putting them together in what is perhaps the most subtle smoosh I've ever done - and I love how it turned out.

When putting together 31 nail art designs in one specific theme, it quickly becomes apparent that you have to shift a little bit outside of the expected for that theme if you don't want to quickly lose steam and inspiration. And so while today's mani might not scream traditional Halloween vibes, I think that the witchiness of the stamping and the depth and uniqueness of the base polish definitely helps to sort of keep it in that zone. This mani was actually inspired by this one from @manifranny on Instagram because I love love loved the way that she kept it soft and simple - but witchy!

I want to premise this post by pointing out that I am not particularly good at hand painted nail art. In fact, I look at the stunning work that nail techs and other nail artists who do hand painted work do and I'm just absolutely blown away by their skill. But sometimes, just on occasion and often at Halloween, I like to dip my toes in the hand painting pool and generally the other good results I have with that are with gel polish, so for this mani I reached for some gorgeous products that were gifted to me from Aimeili and I think the results are actually pretty cool even though I do not have the hand painting confidence that I wish I had.
